Upgrading Audio on 14 HK system

Hey guys, I have been looking at all the threads, and there is a ton of great info as usual. Some pretty sweet installs too. So thanks.

I am thinking that my next project would be to upgrade sound and do either a custom fiberglass sub enclosure where the factory is, or a JL stealth.

My big question is about taking the audio from the stock amp. Removing the Headunit is NOT an option. I would like to use like a LC6i or similar processor and understand i would have to sum the outputs from the amp. which ones are you guys using? And is it true that you have to put a resistor inline on these new systems to "trick the amp" so it doesn't cut out? If so what size? and do you have to do it on each channel? (i have decent car audio experience as i worked at a custom shop years ago, but haven't done any installs since the newer head units that need to stay era began)
Also seen some guys mentioning running a 5 channel to power everything. Are you leaving some things on the stock amp? Was wondering since you have to leave it there anyway can i run a sum into a new 5 channel, and power the doors and tweets off the 5 channel along with sub, and then let the stock amp run the center?

thanks

Jr.

Re: Upgrading Audio on 14 HK system

I didn't have to use any resistors in my install, but I did leave the rear speakers playing from the factory amp. I used a Rockford 360.3 since it gave me the ability to keep the center channel and I had it laying around.

I guess I am using something of a 5 channel setup. I have a 4 channel running front components and the center channel; and a mono block powering the sub.

Re: Upgrading Audio on 14 HK system

I'm using a Rockford Fosgate 360.3.
