What up JG!

Finally have made some progress on my 14' SRT so I thought I would share some of the mods I've done with some pics and thoughts.

Bought in December 2014 with 4k miles...very happy I did since I saved almost $17k of MSRP!! Dealer I purchased from threw in the max care warranty and full floor/cargo mats as well

Here is the progress...most of these mods I learned from JG so thank you all for your help with my beast! Any questions just ask

This was his first time home after some love/detail

"Jill" 08' 5.7L 2wd (gone but NEVER forgotten :()...my friends 14' Overland...Jack

Tinted up...20% over stock rear (5) windows, 5% on rear lower bumper reflectors and 3M clear film on headlights

Rear black Jeep emblem...muffler delete (for $100, this really made the beast sound like is has over 475hp and does not have any drone @ freeway speeds, even with ECO/MDS engaged )

Video w/ muffler delete (without aFe intake)

Afe Pro Dry S Intake, BT Catch can w/ stainless braided lines and BT caps

I needed new tires (@ 12k on the Pirelli run-flats, I had about 1-2k miles left) and was tired of cleaning the Spider Monkeys (they are a biotch to keep clean )...so I had some Goliath's custom painted dark grey with a hint of metallic

Changed the pads to thermoquiets (Amazon, $80 for the set!!), replaced the front rotors under the warranty recall and got new Toyo Proxes ST II's 295/45r20, TPMS, along with black Gorilla lugs and painted-matched center caps!! Could not be happier with the ride quality, traction (for the $$) and mpg boost (over 2 mpg's better on the freeway @ 80 mph over the Pirelli run-flats)

Hard-wired my Passport Redline radar detector to the rear-view mirror ($15 part from Amazon, 10 minute install)

90's MBZ E-Class parking brake pedal cover (GREAT mod for $15 and 15 minutes)

Carbon fiber wrap on sun visors and rear aluminum-finished cargo inserts (GREAT cheap mod as well IMO)

Protect your key(s)? Got both of these on Amazon...they are awesome

I have a couple more mods I am mulling over...but for now I am happy with my progress. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks for looking

14' SRT "Jack" Mod Thread

I have two sets of factory spider monkeys in black chrome

Btw- still fighting dealership on rotor replacement. They say they'll need to replicate issue. As u probably know, the squeaking doesnt happen all the time but when it does, it's hella annoying and it happens often enough. Have appointment sept. 3 and will ask SRT support team to contact my dealership prior

That's BS...the TSB is by build date only and clearly states it is not always replicated. There should be no discussion. Contact Jeep if they do not handle it! :slapfight:

No brainer, did the black grille rings. I am happy...brake ducts will be paint matched to wheels or carbon fiber...or gloss black hahaha

Before:

Took about 20 mins to get them off, first one was almost half of that time haha...worked bottom up, corner to corner...with a trim stick and thin towel to put in-between ring and grille. Once the bottom is off, two clicks at the top with the trim stick, starting at the corner then moving inward towards the opposite ring corner.

(I have to black out the "quarter" that now sticks out behind the grille below the hood latch...flat ended bolt iirc...paint it black)

I am with you on this. I absolutely hate the goliaths and dont know why folks actually like them. To each his own though. Maybe one day i might buy the black chrome spyder monkeys to replace my silver ones. I actually think 22 in spyder monkeys would be sick....but they are not available

#19 ·
WOW!! I didn't see them on your build thread...dayum they look great on silver!! Love that SIG pic...I just sent it to my buddy and he said "that is exactly the theme I am going for on my limited" (he has a 14 limited and is slowly blacking out the chrome). I sent him a link to your build thread...pig in $hit!!

PIMPIN! PIMPIN! PIMPIN!

Thanks to you playa!! Much respect

They are in the top-3 most difficult wheels to clean that I have ever encountered...my old 3-piece HRE's, the Spider Monkeys and Cayenne Turbo Wheels (the 11 spoke multi-spoke, 21" iirc; on a 2013). To clean them properly takes a lot of time

Curious how you hard wired radar to your mirror. What was the part you got from Amazon? You have a link? Just got a Valentine One and want to use your set up. Thanks!

#27 ·
Here is the link to the Mirror Cord I bought...works perfectly with my Passport Redline and my new Max360. VERY simple install and IMO is the cleanest look for a hardwire. I used to tap into the fuse box, but this was so much easier to install and has worked great for over 6 months. Great product for $14! I am pretty sure this will work for your V1, but I would double-check as I have not installed a V1 utilizing this cord

Nice ride. I like the white with blackout features. I hope you don't mind me using your ideas on my 2015 Granite Crystal Metallic Jeep. The carbon fibre inserts in the back look great. Please provide a link or a source for these accessories when you can.
Your CAI I would also like source. It looks like a great alternative to a K&N with no oil, right?
The black grill is a must as well. I'm putting Magnaflows on this coming week... first things first.
Thanks.
Thank you for the kind words...I couldn't agree more, the SRT has so many gloss-black trimmings so it just made sense to continue the theme. I do not know why the SRT's did not come from the Factory like this! Check our just4jeeps.com for the PX-8 grille rings and lower brake duct surrounds. Also bought my rear PX8 Jeep emblem from there too...these should have been my first mods!

The aFe I have installed is awesome! Improved engine/exhaust note, better mpg's and looks sweet IMO. Correct, this is an inverted dry-fileter (Pro Dry-S). I love not having to oil the filter and after 10k miles I have "cleaned" it out once (removed filter, quick rinse then air-dry...VERY minimal dirt was evident). I have been very happy with this intake, and consistently get IAT temp readings 5-7 degrees above ambient when moving...which is great based on all of the research I did prior to purchasing. There is a new version (Momentum GT) which appears to very well engineered, but based on what I have read it is not worth the extra $$ over the Pro-Dry 2 S that I have.

What Magnaflow exhaust setup are you going with? I have just ordered a Corsa from my buddy on here...he did not like it as it was too quiet for him...so he will be getting the Borla Atak system. Will post pics/vids once it is installed. I had a Magnaflow on my 08' Hemi and loved it. What made you chose Magnaflow? Interested to hear your thoughts...

So I finally got around to installing a couple LED's in the rear passenger overhead lights...in the picture below I have the rear cargo lights, reverse lights (921's, which do not fit since they are too small to fit into the connection  so I need to get them replaced) and the overhead passengers (installed, pics).

As you can see, the new Phillips LED's get rid of the orange-hue light and replace with a nice blue-tint. I love the look of LEDs in the interior as they match the majority of the interior lighting now. I have no clue why they did not make all interior lighting LEDs as it looks weir IMO having two distinct colors of lights in the interior. Very easy install (less than 2 minutes) and look great with the other LEDs I have installed. Will post more pics once I get the rear cargo installed and the needed replacements for the 4x reverse bulbs...

Thanks for the information. The Magnaflows were simply chosen over Borla, Corsa, etc. because of the tone. I have put exhaust systems on the last 7-8 cars I've owned. I like the deep throatiness of Magnaflow. Had I gone with Borla I would have opted for the "S" rather than the ATAK system. There's a Mustang that runs an ATAK near my house and I think it draws too much attention to itself.

thanks again!

I agree with your assessment...I had a Flowmaster, Borla and Magnaflow on my 08' 5.7L...and the Magnaflow was straight throaty! I always got compliments on the sound of it. The Borla was nice when I opened it up, but was to subtle for me. The Flowmaster was loud, but seemed "fake" and didn't have a natural/deep tone to it. So when I replaced the Borla with the Magnaflow (after the Flowmaster) it was perfect! I hope the Corsa is a good medium between louder than stock but minimal on the freeway/no drone. Hopefully will have it on in the next 2 weeks.

Do you have videos of your Magnaflow?

Silly "mod"...found these interior mats on eBay so I thought I would give them a try. For the price I am VERY impressed with the fitment and look. I was worried that it would be too much red/Jeep inside, but you actually can't see them when driving! All of the pics have the mats installed. Subtle, cheap interior fun for the beast

The boxes arrived today for the Maggies. I'm simply putting the mufflers on for now. They are nice polished stainless. I'll either go with 4" or 5" tips. I gotta post some pics! Give me a couple days. If there were parts of the system you'd absolutely replace please tell me. You and I both live in the land of wackos, so the catalytic converter's gotta stay.
Love to hear your views. I bought an extended warranty and don't wanna mess with breaking down the motor for 5 years or so. Exhaust, intake, tuning, if possible. The finance Mgr at the dealer said no tuning on a 2015. I hope he's wrong.

#34 ·
I unfortunately have heard the same thing...no tuning yet for the MY2015's

Please post your feedback and videos once you get the Magnies installed...looking forward to hearing the setup!

Amazing how much those grill rings change the front end look. Great mods!
Thank you! I have no clue why Jeep didn't do that in the first place, since they already have the parts for other trims. Makes no sense :slapfight:

I was able to get some more installed...but for some reason the bulb types are somewhat inaccurate. Let me explain:

For the reverse lights on a 2014, there are 4 bulbs; two on the cargo door and the other on the outter-fenders. Based on my research, all 4 were the same...this is NOT accurate! The inner cargo reverse bulbs are 921's (pictures below). The outter tails have a larger bulb/socket (after talking with Danny, we are thinking they are 3156's). Can anyone confirm this?

For the rear cargo interior lights, the fitment guide says 6411 Festoon bulbs...which they are NOT! They take a 921 (see pics).

This has been quite frustrating as the fitment guides seem very straight forward, but there are multiple errors.

I am working with Danny/XenonDepot now to figure out the proper bulbs to purchase. So far I have the following replaced:

Footwells
Front Domes
Rear passenger over-heads
Rear Cargo
Inner cargo reverse lights

There is a pic below of the interior with all LED's installed...LOVE the look! Did this in my 08' and really dig the look when entering/exiting the beast

Does anyone know what bulb we need to utilize for the outter reverse lights? There are two pics below (in the sunlight): both close-ups, one with the buld installed and the other with it out next to the socket. Any ideas? 3156?? Please post pics/links to the bulbs you have purchased for these...

I will let everyone know what I find out...

SOOO the front end "black-out" is done! Take a look at the before and after...

There have been some threads on here about what looks better...and for me there is no question that the SRT (especially in white) looks better with the chrome delete. To me it compliments all of the other trim pieces much better...and looks MEAN when the beast is in someones rear-view mirror!

Be honest...to chrome or not chrome...what do you like best??

The all black looks sick! I want to do this to mine but having a hard time justifying spending the cash on the oem rings/fog pieces. Such a rip and from what I've read the other alternatives blow. Lol. But without a doubt it looks amazing! Great build thread and looking tight! ????

No question, NO CHROME! Looks great man!! I feel if there is chrome, you need all the accents chrome. Maybe I'm OCD like that. Never understand why Car companies offer "blackout" packages and don't blackout all the chrome (i.e. Window trim)

Thanks bro...couldn't agree more!! Now I need to tackle the window trim...more than likely I will be having it painted, but still entertaining the idea of matte or gloss black wrap...I am going to do a test section with Plasti-dip this weekend to see how it looks and if it will hold up. Will post a couple pics once I get a section done and my thoughts. It will be pretty expensice to paint all the trim, so if I can do it another way that doesn't look cheap I will probably go that route.

Have you done anything to the window trim?

#39 ·
I tried plasti dip and failed. I would recommend gloss black vinyl wrap. More expensive, but worth it. Paint scares me on chrome too.

#40 ·
I was hesitant to do this based on pricing...but I keep coming back to this method...and I think you just solidified my approach. Thanks!! Can you post some pictures? Close up and in direct/non-direct sunlight? Thanks again!

Finished up the outter reverse (7440) from XenonDepot...WOW!! I will let the pics do the talking...ask if you have questions lk. Nuff said

Got the Corsa BLK cat-back installed today...haven't had enough time to hear it, but wow does it sound a lot different than stock!! I had my resos chopped on my stock so it sounded nice, but this is a great combo between louder than stock but mellow under normal driving conditions...JUST what I was looking for.

Will post some videos and more feedback after the weekend!
