This is what Chris, Leg Maker Intakes, said about heat shields: "Your comments are fairly common ones when looking at intakes that place the filter in the engine bay. What I have found, is that unless the box is completely sealed, the air in the engine bay will still be brought into the intake tract, shield or no shield. When this happens, IAT's go up (heatsoak) and performance suffers. Keep in mind a very important point...... this is mainly true when the car is at rest and no air flow is moving over the front of the car. Once the car begins to move, the air coming in from the intake hole in the fender is from the outside and thus negates the notion that the intake is sucking nothing but engine bay air."
