Diablo Trinity....worthless....??

I am upset that I even paid $400 dollars for this tuner. My 0 to 60 actually went from 4.6 seconds to 4.8 seconds with their 93 octane "performance tune". Then when I tried to put it back to factory settings the thing keeps saying "writing vehicle" over and over and over. Does everyone else feel the same way or is it just user error? Lol! I have used tuners before but this one is not worth the money in my opinion. Maybe I need to play with it a little longer to learn all the modes. I will say I do like the fact you can turn off the speed limiter and MDS. That's about all though. Maybe its worth it for that only.

Re: Diablo Trinity....worthless....??

Mine is bricked and I have to send it in for them to unbrick it. On my dime too.

Right now Diablosport has the market cornered for our Jeeps. I've used the MyGenius tuner for my C63 AMG and never had any issues like I do with this Trinity. It takes upwards of 30 minutes to write a tune and that is ridiculous.

The day another tuner arrives on the market I can see a lot of ppl jumping ship if it is better and less of a hassle.

Re: Diablo Trinity....worthless....??

HPTuners and SCT both have tuners out but they don't have same kind of support from tuners, experience, and forums as Diablo. I had a trinity on my '11 GC and it didn't take 30 minutes to write. But, that was a different animal from the '14+ WK2.
Not sure for either of you, but make sure you have a battery charger connected while programming, there are 30+ modules that are woken up during the write and the tuner can only check battery voltage at the beginning. So if the voltage drops mid-write, you can brick your PCM. I learned the hard way on my '12 300.

Re: Diablo Trinity....worthless....??

I'm looking into investing in the diablosport or hypertech. I know it cost a little more but I'm getting mine from an ECU sports tune specialist. Saves the hassle from me messing something up 😂

Re: Diablo Trinity....worthless....??

And still, nobody has unlocked the MY 2015 ECU???

Kind of disappointing to own a car for almost a year and not being able to tune it without switching out to a 2014 ECU - and even then, you're dealing with a new set of gremlins because of the slight changes to the 2015 motor components...

We already know for a fact that the 2015 ECU is hackable - according to the service bulletin...so why are none of the tuner companies making this happen?

The 2015 PCM is not hackable and you do not need to use a 14 PCM to tune it. You need to either send your PCM in to have it modified or buy a new PCM that has been already modified. Jeep has increased the encryption on the PCM and it can't be cracked with the available options. Pick up a new PCM for a few hundred and then send it in to have it modified. Swap it out if you need to go to the dealer.

**What service bulletin are you referring to that states the PCM is hackable?**

ECU = Engine Control Unit
PCM = Powertrain Control Module

Both are basically the same thing and neither are wirelessly hackable. What was a vulnerability was the UConnect system, which if remotely accessed and some firmware written to a chip in the system, would allow said person to have access wirelessly to inject messages into the CANbus to have the vehicle perform certain tasks. This in no way hacked the ECU / PCM, this gave commands to different modules, it did not write code to the ECU / PCM or any other module. It simply, well not really simply, but gave the ability to give commands via the bus.

MyGenius is GARBAGE. I used one when I had my C63, that is still collecting dust in my garage. I was appaled at how convoluted it was to get married to a vehicle and upload a tune. It looks and operates like a Predator from the mid 00's, at twice the price.

I've had a Predator and two Trinity units and have never had any issues that couldn't be solved with a quick google search. AND they retain some resale value, unlike the MyGenius.

Re: Diablo Trinity....worthless....??

My 0.02 : The Trinity is AWESOME for WK1 owners!!! Plain and simple...used it for my 08 5.7L and did a CMR with Johan. Shaved .4 tenths of a second of my 0-60 with his tune after 3 revisions.

For my 2014 SRT, the Trinity is pointless. The 8.4" nav unit has SRT gauge pages and speedo has onboard diagnostics which imo opinion are the 2nd/3rd most important features. Once you tune it you can setup custom gauge pages and run diagnostics (along with data logs which are needed for a proper CMR). I just sold mine to a jg user and he got a great Trinity with some extra goodies for $350...so as one member stated earlier they do hold their value fairly well.

A custom tune (CMR) imo is the only way to go if you want to get all you can out of a tune. Outside of tire size updates and MDS disable, the real "returns" are in the custom tunes. I found the canned tunes to be more of a nuisance than a performance gain. I used mine for a couple years and never had any issues/problems (updating, writing vehicle, restoring factory tune). Amount of time it took to write the tune on my 08 was 8-10 minutes...on the WK2's I have seen upwards of 45 minutes (my buddies 2014 WK2 5.7L). If I had a WK1 I would have never sold my Trinity

I think the ineffectiveness of the canned tunes on the '14's is overblown. I've seen great results from the 93 octane tune.

I'm in the process (and have been for some time) of getting a CMR tune, and to this point, we can't get faster than the 93 Octane tune. The launch alone is night-and-day from stock.

I've got a fastman TB and Bwoody CAI, so maybe that's the right combo to take advantage of the paramteters that the 93 octane tune uses? So stock guys are seeing a reduction of performance? No idea. But I was expecting to see a reduction in performance based on all the comments I've seen, and it's just not the case.

But you're right, the old 6.1's even with no mods saw a great improvement from the canned tunes.

Also, I think the data logging, ability to pull and clear codes, CMR tunes, change throttle response, disable MDS, change tire size certainly makes the Diablo worth it. The timers are redundant because of the 8.4 Uconnect, but they do take it to an additional decimial point, which can come in handy.

Plus they work on so many different cars. If you sell your SRT and get an F-150 you can still use the Trinity, for example.
