Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

My jeep has been picked up. Install schedule didn't go as planned for Tom and I, but I must say, I'm impressed with the Kit, as was LG.

518whp, 103deg outside today, and the fan they use at LG looks like a 1/2 HP shop fan. Laughable.

Pics attached. Lots of traffic in my area for back to school shopping right now, so didn't get on it too much. I do have a single road that I'm on often, and I pulled a 4.2 0-60, but it didn't seem like launch control was working correctly. I'll play with it some more.

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

just reviewing the thread and comments above, my BOV flutters quite a bit when you let off of it. I haven't tried adjusting the knob yet, but will do so later today when i take the car out again, after traffic dies down.

Didn't get springs put on yet, but do have the headers.

RIPP - what do i need to do to get the updated software from you?

EDIT: I just adjusted the bypass valve, threading out a bit, per vortech recommendations. Haven't driven it yet but the theory/logic behind it makes sense.

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

IS THIS NORMAL FOR CENTRIFUGAL SUPERCHARGERS?

A COMMENT I FOUND ON ANOTHER VIDEO....:

"all vortechs do this at idle (or just off it). The crank changes speed (a little) which causes the gears to clash as if you came off throttle. Similarly, the pulse waves of air from the engine cause the impeller to judder. As long as it goes away when you spin up the blower (1000rpm+), it's fine. If there was a bearing problem like that, it'd probably explode the blower at 7000rpms. Certain cars raise idle in the tune to fix. Raises fuel consumption and makes emissions harder to pass."

So, I then go outside and have the wife slowly tap on the throttle up and down. Initial startup, no noise. After it idles down: noise. RPMs up, no noise.

It can't be heard with hood closed or when behind the wheel, but when I popped the hood while running to adjust my bypass valve, i heard that and freaked.

RIPP - What say ye?

turbos don't have integrated gear reduction, so i think that knowledge doesn't quite apply here. I've had a few turbo cars myself, no issue.

In this case, the noise seems to be created by clearances in the gears from rocking back and forth. the theory makes sense, but i still don't like it.

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

Raising idle would def fix it.

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

Just for comparison sake. I've attached two videos. One is of just me turning the pulley on the unit with the belt off. This sound is normal- just hearing the rotation of the blades/gears. The 2nd video is what it sounds like at idle. It sounds a little noisy with the hood open but really can't hear it with the hood closed. In talking with the guys at RIPP, these units can be a little noisy in the beginning but should quiet down once worn in.

makes me feel better....

question - is that the original shipping plug, or the breather plug, on the top of the blower, with the brass head?

my installers may not have swapped that out... if not they're going to be in trouble.

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

My assumption it was the breather plug with the vent brass fitting on top. Now I'm confused as I've looked at several pictures and don't see this additional bolt sticking out. My mechanic put it on as I believe it came with the kit. Should I take this off? Here's a picture of it for reference.

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

I have been looking at videos and pictures too. I guess the hole in the side is the breather part of it? I will check mine tomorrow AM. My guys didn't install an extension stem like yours shows, they could've opted not to use it or possibly didn't take out the shipping plug and replace with breather...

Will examine in AM
