Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

Well just read all your links you posted and they go back as far as 2008 sounds like a normal sound from the Vortech SC and nothing to worry about as far as what I have read . Still don't like that sound thou ,so how much more RPM do you have to increase to deaden out the bearing sound ? and what have you set your idling RPM to

Haven't changed idle yet, but it looks like 1000 would do it

Checked; they did put the breather in, which I suppose is why I have a little red fluid around the port and supercharger, probably blowing out from a tad overfill

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

Good to hear. For some reason they put that extension on mine but it must have come with it. Will ask the guys at RIPP if the extension is necessary or what purpose it serves.

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

I would think just better breathing to atmosphere, instead of breathing into the pocket

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

Probably right. I went ahead and drained and refilled my oil just to make sure it was working right. I'm sort of OCDish. Anyway, these things DO NOT take 4 ounces of oil as instructions state. I put 4 ounces in and had a ton of oil blow through my valve. Lesson learned. After more research online these things really only take 3 ounces of oil. Very easy to overfill and it's hard to read the dipstick. Thank goodness for the relief valve.

I might do the same. Don't want to trash a $2500 blower

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

RIPP just called to chat for a bit. I have the new tune which should address and fix my CEL on long tube catted headers (I have Stainless Works, they've fixed the problem with Kooks and AR, should be the same).

Also address blower noise. As I reiterated to them, and to everyone else already, I have no concerns with the "chatter" if you will of the blower at low RPMs. Part of the beast, and will quiet down in time.

Thanks RIPP & thanks JeepGarage. This is fun.

RIPP Superchargers is a splendid one to behold

If there was a bearing problem like that, it'd probably explode the blower at 7000rpms. Certain cars raise idle in the tune to fix. Raises fuel consumption and makes emissions harder to pass."

So, I then go outside and have the wife slowly tap on the throttle up and down. Initial startup, no noise. After it idles down: noise. RPMs up, no noise.

It can't be heard with hood closed or when behind the wheel, but when I popped the hood while running to adjust my bypass valve, i heard that and freaked.

RIPP - What say ye?

Hey congrats on the install - great numbers... We're happy to see our advertised 30whp per Psi is translating out to the field with great success.

With regard to the noise we get this a lot with fresh installs. This is a totally normal condition with new superchargers, there is a 500-1000 mile break in (seat-in) period and this noise softens up to nearly nothing. Its a product of the hardened gears making face with each other and once this happens, the noise goes away. Furthermore the camera tends to pick up the sharper sounds of the compressor running and it sound over exaggerated in video.

There is no need to raise the idle and/or to have changed the oil so early on give it some miles and let it break in and you should be good to go.

With respect to the BOV we typically adjust them to about 6 threads showing on the valve, but some guys have run them tighter. The flutter is a product on the air popping off the valve that's over tightened. So our advise is to back it off until its a slight flutter to a steady hiss.

The extension is a RIPP produced catch can for the fluid. In our own SRT we've thrown it around some high speed (heavy G's) corners and noticed a little too much bleed as a result of fluid sloshing around. The catch can helps the fluid expand and contract and keep it where it belongs. (the devils in the details)

If you think about it, since the belt is always spinning the blower, there is some boost being made all the time, even at idle. The BOV needs to have a fairly loose spring to constantly let out this pressure until you actually floor it and want to build boost.

I had a Vortech T-trim with vent-to-atmosphere BOV on my last Cobra. The tial Q came with a bunch of springs, but they were all made for turbos and didn't work correctly with my supercharger. When I got the correct spring, it was very light to account for the constant pressure issue. So basically the valve was open all the time and was pretty damn loud even at low RPM.

I originally ran a vortech valve that came with the car and it fluttered all the time. I wasn't a fan and didn't feel like messing with adjustments. The Tial valve worked perfectly when I got the correct spring. If you do like the Vortech, I'd imagine it would be run fairly loose, but those guys should know what they're doing by now

Re: 14StormTrooper & JVM S/C Installs

My kit is finally on. I am pretty impressed with it so far. I picked it up yesterday after being on the road most of the day. I can tell these is a lot more power obviously. It no longer feels like a big heavy SUV. I made a few pulls on the highway and when it kicks in it boosts it pretty good and feels awesome. I am going to be getting a new tune from RIPP later this week. I dropped the Jeep off this morning to get wrapped and won't have it back til Thursday evening.

Here are some pics of the finished product.
