Australian RIPP Install (RHD)

Thought I'd start a separate thread on how the RIPP install goes for us RHD. I've ordered the RIPP kit with a Black Intercooler (just to attract less attention).

Install: Prior to the Install I've spoken with:
RIPP: Send them photos of our RHD engine bay and there was nothing obvious about our layout to prevent the install of the kit as is.
Jeep: I've taken the install instructions to my Jeep Service Centre (Artarmon NSW), who don't see any issue either and are happy to do the install
EVO Compliance: These guys do Compliance/Engineering Certificates and think the kit looks good. Only areas to note on the kit is it will need to include a "Plumb Back" for the Blow Off Valve (mandatory in Australia). We also need to do a IM240 Emissions Test.

Costs: In addition to the purchase price of the Kit:
Shipping to OZ (NSW) is about US$400.
Duty/Taxes: Apart from the 10% GST, I "think" there is no more duty on parts thanks for the FTA - https://www.dfat.gov.au/fta/ausfta/o...utomotive.html which I presume is in force now.
Install: I'll get the Jeep Dealer to do it, they will charge normal workshop time so I guess it is say A$1,500
Compliance: EVO Compliance quoted A$1,500 for the certification including a brake test due to the increase in power being over 20% from stock. Apparently this part only needs to be done once per kit, so they don't have to test each car they do, just the first.
IM240 Emission Test: Free in NSW (RMS in Botany do this).

I'll keep this thread updated as the install goes.

Thanks
Nathan

Correct, we had this discussion and it was basically - if the mod busts stuff that is my problem, but if it is a general issue than it is still covered.

Re: Australian RIPP Install (RHD)

Just the price of the RIPP website.

FYI - they also have an Aussie Distie if you don't want to ship from the US yourself - RIPP - 2012-2014 6.4 SRT JEEP Cherokee Supercharger but they don't list a price yet.

I've gone and spoke to them about the SC for the SRT. I asked about the legality of fitting it in West Aust and the answer was SC are fitted to Fords and Holdens and the police leave them alone so what's the problem. I'm thinking of the insurance company and not being covered. Wasn't happy with how things went it felt as if I was annoying them with my questions. I might have caught them at a bad time their FB page has them working on heeps of Jeeps.

Re: Australian RIPP Install (RHD)

I rang RIPP today and was told that my order (along with a dozen others) should ship out this Thursday. I also confirmed I'm getting the Black Intercooler.

One thing has me worried, and I don't have an answer.

The local Compliance Engineers have said that in Australia (NSW) the blow of valve can not vent to atmo but must be plumbed back (and that it should be straight forward). I've communicated this to RIPP a few times in email but never got a response to this question. I raised it on the phone today and was told this was not possible with the included blow off valve.... but they "might" have a solution in the future. I asked what they do with all the other kits (eg Wranglers) shipped to Oz but they did not know.

I was kind of expecting a conversation of what to do and how to go about it, but instead just got a sort of a "shrug of the shoulders" like they did not care.

I must say to date I've found the pre-sales comms pretty lacking. I've sent pics and Q for us RHD'ers but few responses and then only when I call to remind them. I pushed all this aside given the reports on this forum and I'm hoping the post sales support is as good as others are saying.

I get they are busy, but it is a long way to bring by SRT in if something does not work and this is the first RHD install that I know of.

Thanks
Nathan

Hey Nathan, for what its worth there is a RIPP SRT in Australia now - it called into our tech line today. It produced 468bhp (uncorrected to US or SAE which is 530awd hp) on pump gas and 24degs C. The tuner consulted with us regarding tune and was impressed at how clean it is out of the box. His concern was about the heat which he sad can reach 110F for short periods and octane ratings which are poor. We explained that we tune on a wide range of fuel and climates based on our Wrangler and had the scaling in our tunes to cover his concerns.

He also complimented the install as well and ran into no snags.

So, yes - it works and we would confidently suggest it...

Re: Australian RIPP Install (RHD)

Thanks RIPP, & Great to know there is one done already.

On the Plumb back for the blow off - any comments (as the locals saying it is easy but on the phone I got a "can not be done")? This is important to me as I plan to get the SRT legally certified as a modified vehicle, the key bits are:
- Engineers certificate on the install (including a brake test, Plumb Back)
- Passing an IM240 emissions test

One I have these two I can get a compliance plate and insurance.

Re the fuel rating commonly used in Oz (rated in RON and I believe the US uses PON) with approx are:
91 RON = 87PON
95 RON = 91PON
98 RON = 94PON

I use 98RON fuel.

Thanks
Nathan

With the current pipe location and BOV size there is very little room to get a recirc back neatly... Using some imagination a different BOV location MIGHT (loosely) be possible. Perhaps you might want to approach this where you have a temporary recirc set up for inspection that loops around the engine bay, then remove it in between? Would that be possible?

Fuel tuning is on 91oct US, ALL knock monitors are on full swing and ready to keep the engine safe. In-fact all engine safety systems are on or scaled to protect the engine under boosted conditions. Our Australian tuner last night was impressed that there was no knock dips in the power band on an Aussie car. He said he power was clean and typically they need retuning as a result. We again explained we take the conservative route and leave the piston and engine failures to the egos of our competitors....
