Bwoody CAI and water

I have the 4" bwoody CAI. Just had my car in for service and they basically told me to take the intake out ASAP and put in a different one. Guy called it a "water magnet" and if I drive it in a light drizzle it'll ruin my engine. I have the drycharger cover on it. Is he just trying to scare me or should I legit be worried? I wasn't planning on driving it thru puddle or when streets are flooded.

Re: Bwoody CAI and water

I drove mine with the BWoody with a dry charger through three hours of rain late last year, not a problem at all. Anything deeper than 3 inches you should steer clear of. Simple rain will not harm anything.

What about areas with less than perfect roads? I have to drive on quite a few oil and rock roads. I use sometime else if the rock is loose, but even when its packed there is much more dust than a city road or highway would have. Do you just wash the dry charger more often, or should I just plan on buying filters by the dozen?

Re: Bwoody CAI and water

Just had an idea... I founder if you could spray camp dry water repellent or even the sneaker stuff they sell in the stores to pretreat the filters just for extra protection? Hmmm

Driving home from work last night I got caught in that nasty storm system. Big ass puddles everywhere with minor flooding and really heavy rain. I was going 70mph for about 25 minutes. No problems what so ever, she ran like a champ.

Worse comes to worse, just tape up the little inlet in the grill that the filter sits behind. You won't get as much true cold air, but you'll definitely cut down on road spray getting in.
