California legal CAI

Anybody found a cal legal CAI option for a 2015 SRT Jeep? I have found MOPAR and nothing else. Please tell me there's another option.

Thanks.

Re: California legal CAI

What are the penalties for just install whatever you want?

I moved from the UK where I could do pretty much whatever I wanted to Australia where mods are quite limited, many illegal. I think it's illegal to have an open intake filter here but I don't care, I'll take the penalty should I ever get one.

Thumbs down Re: California legal CAI

Well, I have 1.8 years before I am required, through the state, to get my smog certificate. If it doesn't have the right sticker on it it won't pass the test. If it doesn't pass, it holds up registration. I would have to change it back to the stock configuration to get the smog to pass.

Better gas mileage, more power, better efficiency overall! None of that matters.

Keep in mind these laws don't have to make sense, as long as the right people are getting paid.

Don't get me started.

Thanks.

I'm in Riverside Co. CA, I've had the Bwoody 4" CAI on my SRT for 2 years w/o a problem no carb sticker no smog required yet but when It's time For a smog I will just switch to OEM air box to pass visual insp. I also have the Gthaus CB depending on what smog check shop you go to, a lot of them don't look at those things as long as you have cats you should be ok, if you're getting a CAI the only one that's worth the $ is the bwoody imho. Otherwise just keep the oem air box and get a afe hf filter...

Many would say that honor now goes to the new aFe Momentum GT Pro 5R Stage-2 CAI....not CARB compliant of course...

Re: California legal CAI

I dont have one, but design wise for heat soak I prefer the CAI from bwoody, the AFE plastic housing will still get very hot from usual heat soak issues. This is based on my experience from similar installs in an RS Focus, it may not be correct.
I've ordered a whole load of 4" alu tube so I can make my own cai that actually gets cold from low in the engine bay. I have a bunch of 4" filters laying around I wouldnt mind making use of with some cai experiments.

Re: California legal CAI

I've had 3 different CAI's on my jeep and the only one that actually lowered the intake temp is Bwoody's , with the other 2 intake temp went up higher than stock

Re: California legal CAI

Do any of these after market intakes really make a difference? Wouldn't the computer just rebalance the amount of fuel based on the reading from the MAF sensor?

Cool Re: California legal CAI

I've put different intakes on 4 different cars over the last 20 years or so. I don't typically do the intake without also modifying the exhaust. So the net effect will give me better throttle response as well as better top end power. It also changes the sound of the exhaust note. I like the aFe and the BWoody. Most retailers don't ship these CAIs to California.
On that note, I found out my first smog test comes at 5 years not 2 years so I will keep the stock intake in my garage in case I need it for the smog test.

Re: California legal CAI

I'm glad you figured out the time frame for the SMOG test. I was going to correct you, but I stayed patient and read to the end. I heavily modified my 09 Nissan 370Z and when it came time to SMOG it, I moved to North Carolina.
I miss San Diego.

Dude! You're in Folsom. So am I. I've only seen one other SRT in Folsom. Wonder if that was you.

Re: California legal CAI

I saw a black SRT this morning on Blue Ravine. Mine is Granite Crystal Metallic w/black chrome spyder monkey wheels. Pretty stock actually.

Have you fixed yours up at all?
