Exhaust restriction

I'm wondering what is the most restrictive part of the 2014 SRT exhaust? I am excluding the headers because I would not want to change them. I'm also not interested in a loud exhaust just better performance. It would seem like the cats could be improved by going over to a high flow getting the heat out faster. Any thoughts? Ken

Ive found the huge center muffler to be restrictive. I can feel a big difference in low end torque by adding and x pipe in its place.

Re: Exhaust restriction

I was thinking of doing something like a Dynomax Ultra-X muffler...basically a x-pipe built into a muffler form. Should flow better and be louder than stock, but not as loud as just a straight un-muffled x-pipe.

Re: Exhaust restriction

As far as the oem exhaust the stock center muffler does have a X pipe built into it and i have found out with my 2012 stock exhaust with the valves stock i seem to run as fast as other stock ones with aftermarket exhaust. My 07 also ran a tad faster all stock than other stockers with aftermarket exhaust and were all on 91 gas.

It's interesting you say that Scott. Are you running a tune? I found a quote regarding this issue.

"We proved on the dyno last year that removing the suitcase muffler resulted in a loss of low end torque..., we replaced the suitcase with the Magnaflow built in X crossover and deleted the rear resonators and exhaust piping from the rear axle back. It sounded great but the end result was a loss of nearly 20 at the wheels from stock setup. You need a tuned exhaust or mufflers to keep a little back pressure in the system.

If you keep the stock suitcase in place you'll be fine with the resonator delete...I would not change both."

They claim a proven dyno loss. Hmmm.
