Jet 180* TSTAT

I installed a Jet 180* TSTAT last year and for the most part, had no issues until a few weeks ago... I started getting a coolant smell and occasional drip on the garage floor... I visually inspected all hoses etc. and noticed there was some leakage / residue by the bolts where the TSTAT is and tightened them... Still, there was a pronounced smell of coolant coming from the engine bay... The temps were low as expected for a 180* TSTAT.

So, I removed the 180* TSTAT and replaced it with the OEM TSTAT and the issue went away!

The tempts are in the 200* - 212* F range as I assume is the norm for an OEM TSTAT but wonder if it was a bad 180* TSTAT that caused the issue?

Feedback?

Re: Jet 180* TSTAT

Those temps are about right with the OEM Tstat. Keep a eye on your water pump as this was my source of coolant leak and eventual failure around 60K miles.

Re: Jet 180* TSTAT

Thanks... My 14 GC SRT has a little over 26k miles on it and I hope the water pump isn't the issue... Well, if it is, it'll at least be covered under warranty.

Yeah it would be warrantied. It's part of the drivetrain warranty for 100k

Re: Jet 180* TSTAT

Based on previous issues I experienced and posts on this group... Possible causes are throttle body, TSTAT and GT Haus exhaust if you removed the suitcase...

I had issues with the Fastman throttle body and 180* TSTAT... I went back to OEM and the issues went away.

pretty sure suitcase removal/replacement can't throw codes...I bet it's his valves that the 14 exhaust has but he likely had to remove for GT install...

Re: Jet 180* TSTAT

I believe the suitcase is out. I think it's the fan speed dose anybody know what they set there fan speed to that has a tuner I forget the name of the code I will post tomorrow the number and the name of the code.

My temps are 185* when moving, at a stop I'm up at 203*-209* with AC on & off. I also find that the jeep dose not downshift like it use too.

Need help bad!!

Re: Jet 180* TSTAT

So, based on your original post and the symptoms of your truck, I'm willing to speculate that it's a tuning issue.

Going with a 180* TSTAT will lower the threshold of when it will allow coolant to flow at a lower temperature, but have read some threads that a tune is required to alter the fan settings... Sans the fan settings, my experience showed temp spikes at idle / traffic however, the 180-190 temps were consistent while in motion.

The obvious difference between yours and mine is that you have a tune / tuner... I never experienced any shifting / downshifting issues... Just the pronounced smell of coolant and leakage near the TSTAT/ water pump connection. I'm speculating that either I had a bad TSTAT or I didn't have a good seal.

So, if you're to act as a doctor... I would check your tune, adjust or return to OEM faults and see if it corrects.

Good luck!

Re: Jet 180* TSTAT

Jorgie Del, thanks it looks like that's the way I need to go or go for a custom tune.

Has anyone here done a custom tune on a 2014 srt jeep?
