Looking at SRT8 Jeeps

I couldn't find a general area to put this in but figured this might be the best. I am looking at maybe getting a SRT8 Jeep 12 or 13. How have you guys liked them and the reliability of them? Already have two WK2 in the family as my brother has a 12 altitude and my Mom just got a 14 Overland. Both love them and I had a 99 Grand and Dad had a 03 Grand. But SRT is completely different. I might get a little higher mileage one so if anyone has one let me know what you think. I currently have a 10 Escalade lowered on 26's with Wilwood brakes and have had many performance cars just need a SUV with Twins and traveling a lot. Thanks for the info in advance.

What I currently have.

Re: Looking at SRT8 Jeeps

I have owned quite a few SRTs over the years as well as a few of the R/T (5.7L)s... SRT4 Neon, SRT6 Crossfire, SRT8 300C, R/T AWD Magnum, SRT8 WK1, & a SRT8 Wk2 Still have the Magnum, the 2012 SRT8 WK2 Jeep and the SRT6 Crossfire. Currently working on selling the 2012 and buying a 2015 SRT8 Jeep...

With the exception being the SRT6, the rest I have put a LOT of miles on them and loved every minute. Many mods on all of them, never any problems. Sold the 300C SRT8 with 150K+ miles almost 2 years ago, current owner still loves it. Magnum with the 5.7L has just under 150K miles, engine is still perfect and flawless.

SRT is definitely a different animal and for those looking for performance, there is NO better bang for the buck. I travel a lot for work and get rental cars a LOT. From cheap ECO cars to main stream things like Camrys to luxury SUVs, it doesn't matter, always super excited to come home to my SRT stable.

I am biased of course but yeah, definitely believe, once you go SRT, you wont go back. And mileage is not likely an issue as long as the previous owner took care of it properly.

Re: Looking at SRT8 Jeeps

Like above, I am on my 3rd SRT (06 MSRT8, 10 GCSRT8, 13 GCSRT8). The majority here will tell you to hold out for a 2014 and above, but I like the 5sp better than the 8sp as well as the features on the 2012/2013 are more to my liking... But only you will know from finding some in your area to test out yourself.

2012 SRT8, 75k miles, $37k- this IS the lowest priced WK2 Jeep Ive seen yet. BUT someone found a 2013 with <20k miles going for $48k at a BMW dealer somewhere out east. 2014s are still in the mid-upper $50's...

Re: Looking at SRT8 Jeeps

I realize this isnt the "For Sale" section, no disrespect intended, do not want to de-rail your thread or take away from your legitimate questions but I did just post my 2012 up in the sale section if you want to check it out.

I am basically selling it for what a dealer has offered me on trade in ($37, 500)so no big deal if I dont sell it, but hey, if it fits what you are looking for it could be a good deal for ya.

Just a thought, again, no pressure...

Re: Looking at SRT8 Jeeps

Damn, that is the color I have been looking at but just a little to much in miles. But thanks for the offer. I also would like to trade in the Escalade if it was at the right price.

Re: Looking at SRT8 Jeeps

^---wouldn't even consider a 2012 or 2013...and I've had a '10, '12 and '14.

Tranny, interior changes, radio change, instrument cluster change make the '12 and '13 a terrible cost/benefit buy IMO.

For the most part I would agree with you which is another reason I started off working a good trade in value for my 12 rather than posting it for sale outright...

However, some people like the exterior look of the 12 / 13 models as well as prefer having the back glass open in addition to the full lift-gate. Also many simply cant afford a 14+ model and IMO the 12 / 13s are a good deal in the < 40K range....

I even noticed one person posted they prefer the 5 speed over the 8. Not exactly sure why unless its because its been around long enough to be a proven work horse. If the buyer was going build a huge Power / torque beast, they WOULD have a lot more options in beefing up the 5 speed that's for sure.

And some really don't care about the new electronic gadgets...

Anyway, to each their own, the 12/13s are still great machines and are a lot cheaper than a 14...

Re: Looking at SRT8 Jeeps

Yeah I would do a 14 as I love the 8" screen as we have that in my wifes 13 300c and the digital gauges. But my Escalade is paid off and I want to trade it in and spend very little right now on getting a SRT. So 12 and 13 are in my price range right now. But if I did I would prob keep the 12-13 for a year or two and then get a 14 or 15.

You wanna know a much BETTER financial move, 100% serious here.....keep the Escalade another year or two and then buy a 14-15!! Trading for a used 12-13, then trading a twice used 12-13 for a used 14-15 is a bad move financially all around!

But like it always goes on auto forums...you'll do what you want anyway

Re: Looking at SRT8 Jeeps

lol... yeah I know the more and more I think about it is I will prob keep for another year. Just my original plane was to keep the Escalade and supercharge it and in another year get a toy 09-13 CTS-V. But I just really love the new interiors of the Jeeps and also want the power. So now instead of two cars do I will just do the Jeep. I just have to also check out the room in the back. I also detail on the side so I need room to take my detail stuff when I go mobile. So we will see. Thanks for all the input though.

Yep I like the sharper lines of the 12/13's BUT love the 14's headlamps (work in progress ) and the 5spd is a major part of my twin turbo build down the line.

The more money you put into the Escalade, the more money you are wasting that you could of used on the SRT. No matter what you do to the Caddy, you will be throwing money away. Dealers don't care about what you've done to the vehicle and, only if you're willing to deal with a private sale, any aftermarket items are best returned to stock and sold separately. Think about it, supercharging a Caddy is, what, $8-10k? Thats 13% down on a brand new SRT and 20-25% down on a used SRT... Thats not chump change!!!

Also, you can install the Alpine 9 inch display in the 12/13's... just saying
