Tranny issues!😁😁

I have a 14 wk2 srt. Ripp gen2 kit and forged bottom end. Trans will not shit on its own from a dig under WOT! I have to manually up shift and the Transmission still won't make the 1 to 2 shift under WOT with out lifting. So I start launching in 2 gear and manual shift (left like a snail but worked)and was fine so I thought. but last week really it thru me for a loop launching in 2nd gear didn't work ( had a lil vht down) I guess the Torque was not enuf in that gear to pull out of the vht and I left terrible So I repeated the manual shift process in 1 st gear this time it shifted 1 to 2 shift with no problem. So I tried to make a full pass. Manually shifting It made the 1 to 2 and the 2 to 3 shift and this time hung up on the 3 to 4 shift. I don't know way to do. Letting it shift by its self seems to but out off the question. And manually shifting is my only option but I can't figure out what she wants . This is my first post if I hope it's not to cunfussing but guys I need help! Thanks

Re: Tranny issues!

Easy fix, tune just needs some adjustment of trans torque tables. Cant believe after all this time that these RIPP tunes are still so far off. Get onto them, or as ur in Jersey, maybe Jerseyboy can sort u out or there is always Johan.

Re: Tranny issues!😁😁

I checked with my tuner and I was told there is no transmission tuning for my truck yet. Does any one know anything about this. The trans in the my jeep is the same in the hellcats and they have trans tuning for those.

Re: Tranny issues!😁😁

Have you advised Ripp of your issues? I think they should be on the hook for issues with the tune they provided with the kit...

Yes I talked to them... They told me the same thing about the lack of transmission tuning. They told me to try left to shift procedure. I drag race and and that lift to shift cost me et which equates to 💵 in this game.

Re: Tranny issues!

Keep digging till you find a proper tuner who understands how these work.
Very few do and you will get same BS that there is no trans tuning blah, blah.
Ripp are a waste of time, their tunes suck and if they don't have it worked out by now, they never will.
It is true that there is no tuning for the TCM atm! But, the guys at ZF are not dummies, so the TCM settings are good and work well with a blower.
However, there are a multitude of torque tables etc in the PCM that need changes. When you fit a supercharger and increase torque/horsepower by 50%, you need to inform the tranny so it can respond correctly. There is a huge amount of tuning possible from these tables. When set up right, it will drive nice and smooth and can do best 0-100 times auto shifting.

Good Luck.

Re: Tranny issues!😁😁

over on the WD/Durango side, I know several folk who have worked with reputable tuner teams and gotten good results (and continue to improve).

When I was at Woodward this year I got to meet many fine guys and gals with 345s and 392s in various stages of forced-induction grief. To a one, the answer was "need to find someone who knows how to tune the whole system."

Re: Tranny issues!

ZF is the manufacturer of the trans.

The ZF TCM logic controls the trans but is fed info from PCM (power control module). Because we are supercharged, this info needs modifying to let the TCM know that we have more torque available.

These days when you step on the gas, you are actually sending a torque request to the powertrain (PCM & TCM). These work together to deliver on the request....Simple really!

I'd chase up Johan (diablotoona@gmail.com), he seems to have sorted a few RIPP guys out.

Try pulling negative side of battery off to reset all the adaptives. I am tester for gen2 3.6 kit and this was necessary for mine to shift properly. Do it over night and then drive conservative for 3 key cycles. Meaning keep it under 3500 rpm and no wot. After that have fun and you will see a significant difference in both partial shifting and wot.

I'd chase up Johan (diablotoona@gmail.com), he seems to have sorted a few RIPP guys out.
As you well know, or should, the new Transmissions are learning or adaptive transmissions. Upon flashing a new calibration, it is important to note that you should be aware of a learn time of up to 500 mi (800km), dependent on the style and type of driving. It may be also necessary to "re learn" those adaptives if it starts acting "Dumb" (see quote below).

The "canned" tune provided with the system is a safe and conservative tune, to try to accommodate the different Octane and formulations (ethanol content) through out the world.

To get the most out of your system, We can make some adjustments based on data logs sent to ripptuning@gmail.com with a brief description of the problem and a few files.

For the most optimized tune for your vehicle, it is best to seek out a trusted CMR tuner in your area that can tune for the specifics of fuel, elevation, and other modifications to your vehicle.
