V6 lower air box

Does anyone know why the V8 didn't get this lower airbox feature?

Would have really helped with those intake temps. I'm looking for the part numbr, wouldn't mind trying it out to maintain my OCD for things looking as OEM as possible.

Re: V6 lower air box

Is there a removable section on the airbox for that to attach to? If not, are you cutting a hole for it?

The hood almost completely closes that section off and its pretty well blocked from all of these vents above the grill. Im not even sure why this little 5" "divider" is there

I think the biggest problem is how open the bottom of the airbox is. Gotta find a way to seal that off

If you install this Id be interested in seeing some before and after IAT temps. You might also consider insulating a good portion of that scoop. Hopefully you have some warm climate to test it out in. I will be driving the SRTJ when its 105+ out. Id rather run something down to the lower vent or the brake vent if possible.

Re: V6 lower air box

I've ordered the lower airbox and intake tube from the V6, coming from the US it will take a few weeks to arrive.

The lower airbox in the SRT is a strange design, drawing air from the engine bay and the gaps around the arch liner. At speed this would probably give a slight negative pressure, which I suppose isn't a big deal.

I'm not sure what to expect, but these things keep entertained when I do finally get time to myself

Re: V6 lower air box

I was looking at these WK1 brake vents and trying to see if I could get them to fit down there. Would probably take quite a bit of custom work

Access would be a pain in the ass, the shape looks about right but you'd need the bumper off.

If it wasn't for needing to remove the washer bottle I would have just installed the bWoody intake, it really is the easiest option.

Re: V6 lower air box

Tried the V6 air box, sealed at the bottom so air can only come from just under the hood. While it made a difference in intake temps on a 30-35'C day it made no difference when moving above 40kph.

Was worth trying it out for me.

Re: V6 lower air box

What intake temps were you seeing when it was 30-35C ambient? Shocked you have temps that high already. We're still maxing out around 85F here but 100F is coming in a month or so

The biggest issue is when idling, once we get moving the temps drop drastically so this might be a good option for me.

How many miles on it? Im curious to see your highest IAT with this box. If it stays close to ambient I may buy this as well

Re: V6 lower air box

Hows the "butt" dyno feel? Feel just as fast as the stock intake?

Re: V6 lower air box

We are at the end of summer so we still get the odd 30-40'C day.

On a 40-45'C day I would see intake temps in traffic of + 70'C, hot bonnet, tarmac, engine seems about right.

35'C Day last week I was seeing 50-55'C intake temps with the V6 airbox in traffic, about the same as I would see with the standard airbox.

I think this is more a learning process for me, I moved to OZ from the UK where I built track cars and daily drivers and I was always seeing something close to ambient intake temps. Because it was always freakin cold in the UK.

Time for me to focus on something else.

Re: V6 lower air box

Have you thought about insulating any of these parts?

Looks like its about $110 for the lower box and the inlet scoop. Keep me posted on the temps you see. If this drops IATs 10-20 degrees on a warm day I may do it
