Re: WK2 SRT8 Borla ATAK

I wonder the same question also but the sound won't be the same its been done before by someone on youtube and it didn't sound quite right, however, with maybe some small resonator type mufflers in there inplace of the larger factory ones just to muffle the sound a tad bit I bet it would sound great and cost a lot less than the Borla.

Instead of the Borla, why not just bend your own pipe? Or even easier go to Meineke and have them install straight tubing where the resonators were back and have the tips welded back on. At most it would be $200 tops.
The clips sound great donít get me wrong, but I think youíll get the same with straight pipe, no?

You could certainly swap out the pipe from the MDS valve back with any number of resonators or even a straight pipe and get more volume. The question is what quality is the sound. I don't think you'll get the same with a straight pipe but no one will know until they do it.

BTW, make sure you don't set the color of your text to white, it will never show on someone's screen who uses the default forum settings.

Anything is possible with the exhaust. It's just gonna take people playing around with it and reporting results. With tuning hitting the market for the WK2 with B&G you can disable MDS so then no need for the valves. On the other hand I kinda like keeping the MDS for now. Buying the Borla ATAK opposed to off the shelf parts, you purchased a system specifically made for the Jeep SRT8. It's been sound tuned to give the best possible sound. Also, the tips look great. IMO the ATAK is loud, but it's deceiving because the WK2 is better built so you don't hear it. I've heard mine from the outside with my mom driving it, sounds great! I'm sure down the road people will mod the Borla (what's left of the factory exhaust) and make it louder. But then comes the risk of drone and/or destroying what Borla sound engineered. It could turn out good or bad, it's gonna be trial and error.

In the end, the exhaust is great in my book. Almost kind of sleeper-ish until you really get on the throttle and open the MDS valves to let it scream. Very civilized system when it needs to be. Maybe it's more akin to the Corsa on the WK1 SRT8? Quite until you don't want it to be.

Re: WK2 SRT8 Borla ATAK

From what you all are saying it sounds like the Borla S-type & ATAK do not have a drone when you are at a cruising speed. Is this correct ? I listened to the Borla sound clips on U Tube and it appears so. Any comments ? If true I'm not going to wait for the Corsa setup even though I've always bought Corsa. I've no experience with Borla but know it's a good product. I appreciate any input.

I'd say no drone. I'm out on business, but Monday in gonna try to make some GoPro videos of the Borla.

Re: WK2 SRT8 Borla ATAK

When you order, how do you know if they are shipping you the 11826 or 11827 system. From their website, the systems look similar but have different part numbers for the individual parts. I want to order today but don't want to make a mistake.

You just got to trust them! I ordered an ATAK, 11827. That's what my order showed, that's what my packing slip showed, that's what my receipt showed. So I should of gotten the correct exhaust. They probably look identical but the difference comes down to the muffler internal parts.

Re: WK2 SRT8 Borla ATAK

Just got back from a cruise up to Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI.
I put in about 4 hours behind the wheel at varying road speeds. It's quite warm in WI now so I had the A/C on the entire trip. I never once felt that the noise was obnoxious (Borla ATAK). In fact, to me it seems as if it is stock until you "begin to play". We were able to carry on regular conversations within the vehicle. When you floor it, there is a major difference in decibel level... not a cheap sound... but a nice growl... I didn't feel that it made any different sound as it went in and out of ECO. Like I said, with windows up and A/C on you wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't OEM until you open up the throttle... a nice grin appears on your face... the same grin that you had when you first drove your SRT8 off the car dealership's lot. 19 miles to the gallon on this trip... Several WOT up to 95 mph... beautiful sound... no flutter... mostly cruise at 70 mph. I'm 100% satisfied with this system.

Re: WK2 SRT8 Borla ATAK

Yup... Yup... that was my SRT on the dyno in Waukesha... I would not have believed it, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. The dyno staff was amazed with that type of gain... there must be quite a bit of resistance in the stock resonators...
