Need help ASAP! Strut assembly removal help!!

So I have the front drivers side suspension apart but have no clue out to remove the strut/sprint assembly. I've got the upper A arm loose, the lower clevis bolt is removed and what I believe to be the front control arm removed so that the lower a arm will swing down. Problem is even with the strut assembly completely free I can't get enough room to get the lower forks clear to remove them, is there another step I'm missing to have enough access to get them out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to stand on or push the lower control arm down and at the same time pull the assembly out. I stood on the brake caliper and pushed it down

What all did you have to remove to get it out, I've got all control arms and steering column lines unbolted with just the drive line to the hub connected. Even pushing down on the rotor with my foot it looks like I'm still needing 3-5" minimum to get the forks high enough to rotate out. Really need to figure I tout b/c somewhere along the line the top plate on the strut got turned an now I can't even put it back to stock so I'm stuck...

only thing connected to the rotor/hub is the front drive line. Still no where close to getting this biotch out.

Re: Need help ASAP! Strut assembly removal help!!

When you try to get the assembly out make sure the bolts at the top are still thru the holes in the shock tower other wise you don't have enough room if its completely out. when you push the lower arm down pull the bottom of the assembly out first and the top will follow.

Here is a pic, it was like the strut extended so far that there was no longer room I pushed it backup into the holes and tried pulling it out and still didn't have room. Finally got it to line up and just buttoned it all back up.

at that step I removed the axles. it seemed like the only way I know others have pulled this off without but I couldn't do it.

I was afraid of that, is that an easy or complex task. Never done anything with the all wheel drive so thats where my courage came to an end. Tried looking it up in a haynes manual to see what was involved but didn't have any luck. Looked like some custom tools might have been required at that point as well?

Re: Need help ASAP! Strut assembly removal help!!

it was just the large bolt in the center of the hub. then some pulling and they come out. there are some small gaskets so be careful when they do pop out.

also be very careful not to rip the boot with the strut assembly.
