Re: Run-Flats

I love this car, but not having a spare or at least a donut is just flat-out stupid (no pun intended). Run flats should be an option, not mandated, especially when each one costs $450 to replace.

Yes, that is correct.

Remember, the reason you can't have a donut OR the regular spare is because of the Brembo brakes. I'm 99% sure it takes at least as 20" diameter rim to clear the brake caliper. That was one of the knocks on the Cayenne Turbo S, the brakes were so big you couldn't run a diameter wheel that had offroad spec tires available. Mostly it was the Saudi's complaining since they are probably the only ones who ever consider taking a $140K vehicle offroad

Re: Run-Flats

Also, the spare needs to be the same overall diameter as your wheels, I'm pretty sure its not good to run 1 smaller wheel/tire with an AWD vehicle. I could be wrong but I remember hearing that somewhere.

Re: Run-Flats

I would think it would be safer to have run-flats. I've had four nails at different times over the years in my non-run-flat tires, and I just drove to the tire shop and had it fixed every time. The nail stays in and it's a slow leak. Never used a spare. I don't see it really ever mattering unless you drive way out to nowhere.

Yes, it does but the 265/60-18, 265/50-20 and 295/45-20 all have the same diameter.

Ridiculously high cost aside, there are many places around the country that can't get replacement run-flats in a pinch.

Why would you need a replacement? Get it repaired, right? Or am I missing something.

there are 17" and 18" wheels that clear the current brembos on the wk1 srt. Im sure one can be found for the new wk2 srt as well.

What if you have sidewall damage or another irreparable issue? Getting a new one of these out in the country is not easy.

Also, in general, if it's not reparable, then you'd have to decide right then and there if you want to buy 1 new tire at $500 bucks (assuming you're early enough in the treadlife of the set to only buy one), or 4 new non-run-flat ones at $500 bucks TOTAL.

Hmm, interesting. I do know that the 17" wheels that come on the entry model Laredo V6 will not fit any WK2 V8 because of the larger brakes. Perhaps someone could build a steel rim that would fit so I wonder why Jeep decided to forgo the spare all together?
