What are guys replacing their stock pads with if they decide to try something aftermarket? I don't reqiure anything superior to the stock brake performance and if I could cut down on brake dust a bit that'd be great. My front rotors need to be resurfaced as well. Currently have 15,700 miles. No tracking only DD use.
The stock four seasons look fairly good still. Hoping to get 20-22k out of them before deciding what path I'll take there.
The rear brakes are the same as the 06-10 jeep SRT8 and the stoptechs were great on them. I just went with that experience and blackops liked them too. I think theyve sold hundreds of these sets and not one problem from anyone.
Thanks Scott, couldn't find a clear "winner" in my research other than a few "stoptechs are slightly cheaper and fade less", mostly just degrees of excellence between the two.
How about the front-end brake squeal; did the Hawk pads reduce that from stock? I have had squeal for a while, just learned of the TSB relating to this for new rotors, so once they are in at the dealership, I was planning to get the new rotors and put on Hawk HPS pads to hopefully get rid of the dust and squeal. I don't track the truck (forgive me, it is my 'winter beater'), so I don't need exceptional performance. Would just like it quieter and cleaner, if possible.
0 squeal...but I added the brembo sport rotors as well. But with this beast...you need to go out and spank it ever so often...the brakes are made.to be pushed hard. My guess is your squeal is from all the easy braking. Let them.replace the rotors and add the hawk hp sports...not the hawk 5.0..hps sports. And youll be fine.
got a part number? I can't find them anywhere once I plug in a 14 or 15 JGC SRT...even the online Brembo.com Sport Rotor manual doesn't list them...thx
EDIT:
So I found a '13 post of yours with these part numbers but can only find them on Carid and they only show fitment for "ALL 2015 JGC" without any SRT reference...so if these part #'s are on yours then they are good for mine...
crossdrilled
33S50217
33S50218
slotted
33S60217
33S60218
I will never track mine and am concerned about the aluminum hats on the 2 pc rotors for salt corrosion. Plus the weight savings is really a handling thing (ie track) not really so much drag/ET benefiting so the extra coin is not adding up for me for 2 pc rotors....
Roger that. I got the Hawk HB649F605 Ferro-Carbon pads, HPS series, so sounds like I should be good. Gonna also do the rears at the same time, but already got the Hawk HB194F.570 HPS Performance Ceramic pads, otherwise would have gone with the StopTechs y'all are recommending.
Thanks for all the great info. The dealer said they need to inspect my rotors and measure them to see if they can be resurfaced. They are not the slotted rotors on my 2015. If it's deemed a quality control issue they will replace the rotors for free because I have less than 18000 miles and also it's not even one year old yet.
This is my dd and other than a few blasts here and there I'm not sure why the brakes have started squeaking. The fronts are squeaking like the indicator is touching but the pads themselves still look beefy. There is a slight groove in the front rotors about 1/16 " in depth maybe less, so under a quick glance the service manager said they should take a look at it on my next oil change. That is in 600 miles( I change every 3k ). They want an arm and a leg to do the brakes especially if rotors not covered. So I intend to get their opinion then decide on my next move.
To drop 1500-2000k on brakes and another 1500-2000 on tires in a few thousand miles(have 16600 to date), there is a sweet hellcat chally on their lot. Plus they always drool over the gt haus lol, though that'd be coming off prior to trade in lol.
Dealer replace both front rotors. Factory bulletin was out on them so they were free. I also got the updated slotted rotors instead of the normal rotors my 2015 came with. They also did 4 software updates one of which eliminated that annoyed first cold start 1-2 gear shift. A that is pretty much gone now. Truck shifts crisper now too.
Highly recommend the Power Stop Z23 Evolution pads (1405 for front, 1053 for rear). They're really popular on the new SRT 392 & Hellcat Chargers and Challengers. I had them on my Charger and loved them so much I put them on the Jeep too (albeit changing the factory pads at 18,000 miles on the Jeep was horrible - the brake dust was baked on like carbon from a dirty gun. It took hours to do the job versus <1 hour like it should have).
The biggest seller here is lack of dust. They practically do not dust at all. Some report slightly less initial bite, but I didn't feel that at all. They feel like they stop just as well to me, but they're probably not great for track use. But for DD, I will buy them over and over especially since they only cost about $100 combined.
I have the z23's on my Jeep since about 200 miles and the initial bite is horrible and they fade very easily, at 900 miles now looking to replace them with something else. I even tried to bed them in twice. I also have a 2005 Subaru WRX STi with DBA rotors and stop tech pads and they are great.
What hawk pads did u get? Did u bed them in right after installing? I wouldn't recommend slotted...but that shouldn't matter here. There's too many variables to blame it on the pads....hundreds of owners have them.
Hawk Performance HB649F.605 HPS Performance Ceramic Brake Pad
I bedded them immediately after install but then realized that brembo suggests doing it after the gold color has been removed.
I bedded twice after that. The highway bedding was like 20 brake applications from 65mph. I looked like a maniac on the shoulder of the highway that day. I then drove like 20 miles to let the rotors cool without applying the brakes at all.
I would never recommend ceramics on a jeep srt....even made a thread about it. I do highly recommend the hawk hps sports...which I've ran for years on multiple jeep SRT'S. Im sorry if there was a confusion.
I put on my Brembo cross drilled rotors and bedded them with the Hawk Ceramics. I have to say they felt better on my old worn lipped oem Brembo rotors. They're absolutely hideous with these and I can't wait to get them off. They just don't warm up and making quick stops for turns or corners takes more distance. If I try to brake at my normal braking point I've been used to, they still grab, but that hard bite is not there. That's what I'm used to and I really dislike them so much I wanna to just chuck them into the trash. I have less than 1000 miles on them and I bedded them twice weeks apart. I bought them with Amazon Prime and going to order Hawk HPS through them. I'm just going to ask for a refund or discount on the new order bc they really suck.
So, my experience with pads other than OEM brembo which most of us hate only due to dust:
Did Z23's (powerstop) on my 16 charger Hellcat- Loved them- 0, zip, nadda noise, No dust, cheap, came with full replacement hardware, minimal bite sacrifice. My opinion rating: 10/10
Hawk Pads on 14' WK2 SRT (Currently installed and will be removed and trashed soon): Stupid expensive compared to other products, no hardware in the box, noisy (Yes the rotors were prepped, pads properly bed and lubed), no dust, same bite as Z23's. My opinion rating: 2/10
