wheel corrosion

What is the best way to stop the wheels from corroding? I have 8K miles and my front rims look bad. I have also cleaned rust off my paint and I think this is also for the pads. Ken

Keep them clean, don't use harsh cleaners to clean them and periodically put a coat of sealant or wax on them. Biggest thing is letting brake dust/salt/grime sit on them for extended periods of time. Also never use a wheel cleaner when the wheel is warm to the touch wait until they are cool.

Re: wheel corrosion

This is not the answer I keep them clean use mild soap only and have rust in my paint. I can change out brake pads or recoat the rims with better PVD.

Re: wheel corrosion

The "rust" on your paint is mineral deposits from whatever is used on the roads around you to melt the snow. Iron-X, claybar, wax then sealant in the Spring will have your car looking good as new.

I think I got most of the rust out of my paint but my wheels look like hell. Could this be from the salt also?

A magnified picture could help someone help you...

Have you ever used any of those "wheel cleaners" that have a sharp acidic smell?
If the protective coating on the wheel is fully intact and you wash all road salt off them at least once a week, road salt shouldn't affect them. Wax helps... but not as much if the protective coating has been chipped, scratched, etc.
