First of all...I suggest using the XenonDepot D1S(12-13's) D3S (14+)HID bulbs! They are the only bulbs I will ever use! Top quality and excellent customer service!

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/D1S-Xtreme-HID-Bulb-p/xt-d1s.htm

The initial step...is to remove and isolate the negative battery cable. This can be done by moving the passenger seat all the way forward, lifting up the carpeted cover and pulling it out. Loosen the nut on the negative cable and remove the cable.

DRIVERS SIDE BULB

First step for the drivers side is to remove the airbox and accordian tube. First I unplugged the sensor on the accordian tube.

Second...I loosened the screws on each end of the tube and pulled the tube out.

Third...I unclamped the clamps on both ends of the airbox(the end towards the fender. I then lifted the airbox lid and moved it away from the area without disconnecting anything.....just move it out of the way.

Next.....I removed the lower airbox....by just pulling it out. Its not bolted down at all.

You can see here the small area you have to work with. You can also see the round rubber cover for the bulb. Remove that cover carefully and pull it out. This will expose the bulb. Pull the bulb plug off...then twist the locking mechanism to unlock the bulb from the housing. Pull out bulb and reverse the directions. Use caution when removing and replacing the bulbs. Do NOT touch the bulb glass. I suggest buying a set of nitrite gloves from XenonDepot to handle the bulbs.

PASSENGER SIDE BULB

The passenger side is MUCH simplier.....but just as tight as the drivers side.

FIRST step is to remove the plugs from the PCM and push them aside, out of the way. You can see the pic below of the PCM. Simply flip the arms up and pull the plugs away. This will allow enough room to access the bulb.

Here is a shot of the bulb area

Your hand and forearm will fit into this area. Simply do the same as the drivers side and remove the bulb cover. Follow the same steps as the drivers side.

Reverse the above steps being sure the PCM plugs lock down! More pics are coming of the final results.

I ordered a set of D1S 6000K to replace the stock ones and I have a few questions :
1. The D1S is used for both high and low beam. Then why they called low beam ones?
Here is what I ordered: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/310649475125?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_2103wt_858
The name is 6000K Bulbs HID Xenon Low Beam Headlight Pair 2 Bulb D1S D1R D1C 6000 k 6K White
Will it not work when I switch to the high beam? Do I need some othe D1S bulbs that are both low and high?
2. In the instructions you need to unplug the battery, why? Is it necessary?
3. Is the 6000K legal in Canada Ontario?

Thanks a lot!

Hey guys,
Went to the dealer for drl socket replacement now all the sudden one of my HID lenses are smudged. Dont know why or how they said they never touched it......Fine......Is that the bulb itself or the outer most housing you see from outside the vehicle in the headlight housing. Debating weather to pull it and clean but if its the bulb itself like an incandescent the damage is done already. i guess. They wont warranty anything till it blows, then i asked is it a warranty answer and he didnt have an answer for me on that, one as well.... Good thing my Tipm went and they had one on the shelf......SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having a struggle getting the passenger side light back in. Took the rubber boot off pulled the old bulb out unplugged, plugged in the new bulb but now cannot get it to fasten into place. I thought the bulb snapped in but maybe twists in? Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, new member, 3rd GC, Current is a 2012 Overland.

Thanks

Sounds like you just pulled the old bulb out without unlocking it. Unlock where the bulb goes in and it will slide right in.

Scott,

Did you get the Xtreme HID (aka the cheap ones) from xenondepot or the Phillips or Sylvania. I need to replace mine and I already got cheap fogs that need replacing again so being older would rather have long lasting and more $ then a year shelf life and less.

thanks

I'm in need to replace the bulbs on my 2011 overland summit. Is there any way I can see these pictures on this thread? The error says something about allowing 3rd party viewing. I didn't see a setting like that.

It would be nice to see the install pictures and comparison pictures. Thanks.

Photobucket has changed their policy, basically holding us hostage until we pay their ransom money. Any photo posted here using photobucket is now just gone until the user pays about $500/year for usage.

When I replaced my HID bulbs on my 2011 I used YouTube videos that were indispensable. You will need to pull the bottom box from the air box to get to the left side bulbs. The right side required me to move the relocated relay from the relay recall (unbolt it from the core support and move it out of the way) and slide the entire computer (can't remember so it could be a fuse box lol) up off its bracket and move it aside (YouTube videos showed unplugging the harnesses but there is no need, it was easier to just lift the whole thing up off its bracket). The videos will show you how to release the bulb assembly from the housing. Best of luck.

Doesn't matter what bulb you get it will be slightly different color than the other due to age and hours. Most people will say to change both...lol

My passenger side went out two weeks ago on my was to visiti my son in Charleston for four days. The originals lasted 145k miles.

Local parts stores had the D1S bulbs for about $100/ each, and the online "coupons" were not applicable. So I ordered two OSRAM 4300K bulbs from Amazon for $100/ pair. They arrived Saturday morning and I put them in for my drive back Sunday night.

On the passenger side the access hole on the inner fender doesn't do a lot for you. There were hoses or some other stuff from the Overland package to make the back of the bulb barely touchable with the tips of my fingers. Youtube was helpful. I unbolted the ECU and swung it out of the way and was able to reach in better.

On the driver's side you have to remove the air filter box. That went a lot quicker.

Total time about two hours. An experienced guy could do it in far less.
