First of all...I suggest using the XenonDepot D1S(12-13's) D3S (14+)HID bulbs! They are the only bulbs I will ever use! Top quality and excellent customer service!

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/D1S-Xtreme...b-p/xt-d1s.htm

The initial step...is to remove and isolate the negative battery cable. This can be done by moving the passenger seat all the way forward, lifting up the carpeted cover and pulling it out. Loosen the nut on the negative cable and remove the cable.

DRIVERS SIDE BULB

First step for the drivers side is to remove the airbox and accordian tube. First I unplugged the sensor on the accordian tube.

Second...I loosened the screws on each end of the tube and pulled the tube out.

Third...I unclamped the clamps on both ends of the airbox(the end towards the fender. I then lifted the airbox lid and moved it away from the area without disconnecting anything.....just move it out of the way.

Next.....I removed the lower airbox....by just pulling it out. Its not bolted down at all.

You can see here the small area you have to work with. You can also see the round rubber cover for the bulb. Remove that cover carefully and pull it out. This will expose the bulb. Pull the bulb plug off...then twist the locking mechanism to unlock the bulb from the housing. Pull out bulb and reverse the directions. Use caution when removing and replacing the bulbs. Do NOT touch the bulb glass. I suggest buying a set of nitrite gloves from XenonDepot to handle the bulbs.

PASSENGER SIDE BULB

The passenger side is MUCH simplier.....but just as tight as the drivers side.

FIRST step is to remove the plugs from the PCM and push them aside, out of the way. You can see the pic below of the PCM. Simply flip the arms up and pull the plugs away. This will allow enough room to access the bulb.

Here is a shot of the bulb area

Your hand and forearm will fit into this area. Simply do the same as the drivers side and remove the bulb cover. Follow the same steps as the drivers side.

Reverse the above steps being sure the PCM plugs lock down! More pics are coming of the final results.

Seems simple enough. Thanks for the how to. I haven't changed factory D1S bulbs before but figured it wasn't anything special. Seems the biggest problem is getting to them. With my bwoody the driver side should be just as easy as the passenger side.

What brand are the bulbs that XD sells?

Re: HOW TO: Remove and replace your D1S headlight bulbs

they are XenonDepot brand Xtreme bulbs made with Phllips glass. Be sure to contact Steve(XenonDepot) here on the forums for a much better deal than on his website.

D1S Xtreme HID Bulb | D1S HID Bulb | D1S OEM HID Bulb

Re: HOW TO: Remove and replace your D1S headlight bulbs

Does this require Factory HIDs to swap the bulb? Ballasts?

I have a Laredo X with the factory bulbs - this would be a great upgrade if it will work.
