Re: HOW TO: Remove/replace roof rails on a 2012-14+ Jeep SRT

For all intents and purpose, one could purchase rails from the Summit/Overland and put them on a SRT to mount a roof rack. The only down side would be not all mounting holes would be filled. Is there any safety issues going this route? Do you see any possible issues with mounting a roof rack on an SRT? I wouldn't take it to the track with a roof box on it, but for road trips and such? Thank you so much for ya'll's help!

only issue IMHO would be there are LESS mounting points on the SRT for the Overland/summit rack.

Right, less points but with 6 it should still be capable of holding a rack/box? Agreed?

It "should" be...but I cant say for sure so use EXTREME caution. The roof is only rated for so much weight.

Re: HOW TO: Remove/replace roof rails on a 2012-14+ Jeep SRT

I wonder how to find out what the roof support would be. I'm thinking for that majority of the time I would only use it to carry lumber or around Christmas a tree or two. Are there any engineers out there who could give me some guidelines as to what the limit would be? Thanks Scott for all of your help!

Re: HOW TO: Remove/replace roof rails on a 2012-14+ Jeep SRT

Please excuse my confusion, but if I am looking to replace the factory "flat rails" with "raised roof rails" (not the ones that Scott has done but rails that rise up and inch or so in order to attach cross bars for skis, etc. which I already own), there does not seem to be a Mopar part available. There are a few posts that mention that the 2005-2010 stock roof rails will also fit on the 2014 SRT, but several dealers have told me this is not the case. I'd really like to be certain before I have to go through the trouble of buying and returning. Thanks much!

Re: HOW TO: Remove/replace roof rails on a 2012-14+ Jeep SRT

I took my SRT to the dealer lot and parked it next to a Summit (w/ a pano roof) and compared the rails. The Summit had the same amount of bolts (6) from what I could tell. It looks to be a direct replacement. My main question is why the SRT didn't come with real roof rails?!

I based my response on other SRT owners who tried the same switch. Msybe they have changed the rails for 2014?
