MP3010 Transfer Case Fluid Capacity Confusion

Am I really way overfilled?

I never thought I would ask a “what’s the capacity question” but I have never had an issue like this. When filling diffs/trans cases I realize it’s a loosey goosey within 10% or so thing on refill quantities sometimes but that is usually because you can’t get all of it out so you can’t quite get all the listed capacity in. Sometimes the listed capacities are bone dry/factory fill and sometimes a “real” number. But my concern is the opposite.

The general rule for filling diffs and transfer cases is commonly “fill ‘til it comes out the fill hole” when level. Ours are no different and the SRT manual even says that for our MP3010. Normally not an issue but all sources say it holds way less than I put in.

My concern is mine took 70oz/4.4pts/2.2qts until it started to drip out the fill hole…wtf??? I guarantee it was dead nuts level too and after I exceeded the “capacity” I proceeded very, very slowly and once it was filled to the hole I let it sit for 30 mins to ensure any excess would drain out, barely any did. Did not measure how much came out during the drain but that is only a guide number anyway.

Here are any and all specs I could find for the MP3010:

(Bold is the published spec and non-bold is just my conversion to keeps things coordinated)

SRT Owner’s Manual...........................“until it runs out of the hole…level position
SRT Hotline (in dealer tech database).....44.8oz/2.8pts/1.4qts
Wk2jeeps.......................................... 44.8oz/2.8pts/1.4qts
Amsoil Product App Guide.....................48.0oz/3.0pts/1.5qts
Sgnauto :: Oil & Lubricants...................44.8oz/2.8pts/1.4qts
My Actual (to “run out of the hole”)........70.0oz/4.4pts/2.2qts

So I appear to be 22-25oz/1.4-1.6pts/0.7-0.8qts overfilled. That’s 45%+ which counts as huge in my book on a completely sealed case with nothing but seals to relieve any over-pressure from overfill.

Only thing I have not done yet after fill was to drive it to op temp, re-level it, let it settle and then pull the fill plug to see if any “wants out”….

Fire away guys…Similar experience? Just chill? Drain some? No clue?

Re: MP3010 Transfer Case Fluid Capacity Confusion

This is info straight from dealerconnect Chrysler's dealer website, also saying 1.4qts but fill to the bottom of the fill plug. I personally fill to the bottom of the fill plug unless dealer info tells me otherwise.

Re: MP3010 Transfer Case Fluid Capacity Confusion

So I am in the process of changing the transfer fluid on my 14 SRT. I bought 2 quarts of Mopar ATF+4 since it says it takes 1.4qts. Well I just finished my 2nd bottle and nothing drained out. Not sure how that's even possible, but anyone experience this? I don't have another bottle on hand so not sure what to do at this point. Just not sure why it says 1.4qts when that's not the right capacity. Anyone throw out some opinions? Thanks.

haha, yea i did. Just figured I would bump it up and see if anyone else experienced this as well.

But, I got another quart and got it to 2.2 qts before it started dripping back out. Let it drip for about 20 min and been driving it the past couple days. And she seems to be running purrrrfectly
