14' Cross-Bar Discussion

Anyone have any suggestions for cross-bar's for the 2014's? I know it's probably the same as 2012 - 2013 as well, but the JGC is new to me, so I'm not sure of what is the best out there.

Looking for low drag, no/low noise. I have a Yakima Skybox 16 cargo box I want to put on the truck when taking long trips.

Anyone with cargo boxes have any feedback on what type of mileage drop you saw with the boxes?

Re: 14' Cross-Bar Discussion

Anyone know? I'm looking to get a cross bar but want to make sure I order the right thing. I don't care if it's OEM or aftermarket, just as long as it's nice.

Re: 14' Cross-Bar Discussion

I would also be interested in what kind of mileage drops and what are the best cross bars. Currently I'm looking at the Yakima Whispbars.

Re: 14' Cross-Bar Discussion

Whispbars are known to be pretty low profile and quiet (whisper?), but a lot of times, their really low clearance doesn't work for some boxes and other stuff you may throw on top. Having seen the OEM Mopar bars, I think they're the way to go. I believe they're produced by Thule, actually, so Thule would be the alternative if pricing was too high for the OEM. Just my $.02.

As for mileage, you won't receive much of a drop with just the bars. With the roof box on, your mileage will surely suffer. With my Audi wagon, full loaded with the roof box, I lost about 3-4mpg. With my Touareg V8, I probably only lost 1-2mpg, funny enough. It just sucked on gas anyway. I have to imagine the JGC I pick up will be the same 1-3mpg at most. A lot will depend on the weight inside the box, inside the vehicle, and your driving style.

KEEP IN MIND, products for the 14's may not be available yet...even if 11-13 equipment fits.

Pics for reference...

Re: 14' Cross-Bar Discussion

I posted some pics and info in this thread. I have had the Thule Aeroblades for over a year and am really happy with them. They are powdercoated black which I prefer over the stock aluminum.

Here's the link.

Re: 14' Cross-Bar Discussion

I have the Mopars, and have been happy with them. They are rebadged Thule bars, locks and all.

They're very quiet - I know this because when I got mine there were no keys for the bars included, so I had to drive around with the bars on until I could get new keys from Thule.

Re: 14' Cross-Bar Discussion

Does anyone know if the Mopar part number for 13 is the same as 14? If so, does anyone have the number? I'd like to place an order for them before I make my next trip.

Re: 14' Cross-Bar Discussion

I got the Mopar bars installed on delivery. they were producing a lot of wind noise/whistling so I checked to make sure they were mounted correctly. according to the diagrams on the bars it was correct. tried flipping the mounting brackets and that helped some but not enough. was so bad I couldn't drive with the moonroof open so I took them off. now I'm just gonna install them when I need them before trips and such, unless I can figure out the magic install that produces no wind noise

Thanks for the feedback. Hoping someone has Yakima bars or Thule bars that can provide some feedback here what they used and the wind noise.

Re: 14' Cross-Bar Discussion

searched back on older threads and saw this:

Roof rack Cross Bar Mounting Process

looks like the bars are incorrectly installed pretty regularly. gonna try them a few different ways when I get a chance. perhaps I can find the sweet spot

Re: 14' Cross-Bar Discussion

Decided to throw them on again this weekend to see what's what. yesterday I installed them according to the factory recommendations (fat end facing forward) and they were HOWLING almost immediately (10mph). unacceptable. today I decided to flip them around (skinny part forward)and they were silent even past 40mph. such a huge improvement that I may even keep them on permanent now. quite an improvement.
