Really? I don't understand that logic.

I had contacted the dealer about buying painted ones for my 2014 overland. I hate the chrome. They told me they didn't sell any color match ones for my specific vehicle. They also told me I would not be able to take them off. I did find someone on this forum who mentioned they were able to get the caps of by adjusting the mirror up and down. Their are 5 tabs behind the mirror that need to be released to get the cap off. I then took them along with all my other chrome pieces I could get off the car and had them professionally painted by a body shop. They came out great. I found out later that you can buy different color door handles. I think they are around $240 for all plus removal and installation. As for the person who mentioned powder coating. That wouldn't be possible the ovens they use to adhere the powder reach a level of around 420 and would melt the covers. I had my wheels powder coated and that was my first question. Hope this helps. I also had all the window trim wrapped in 3m matte vinyl.

Cheers

Thanks, I also did similar research and found out that if you want color matched mirror caps you must buy the entire mirror! Considering they do come of, it's much more cost effective to have them professionally painted and that is the route I'll be taking.

How difficult was it to remove the door handles?

The door handles weren't that bad I had a friend who does car audio come by and help. Well he did most of the work cause i was afraid of breaking something . I know we removed the whole door panel and then some screws in the inside. I will try to get more detail. The mirrors were very tough. You will definitely need a long skinny screw driver to get behind the mirror and you will have to move it up and down and side to side to reach the clips. The clips are made of shitty chrome so be careful. I broke one clip on each mirror. So be easy and don't get frustrated.
Good luck!!!

I kind of suspected the door panels would have to be removed. I hate doing that but i may have too...

Now days must include the 1958 Olds Holiday or any Buick Roadmaster or Edsel.
...but at least those were real chrome, not plastic.

Before giving up on powder coating, check around for powder coaters that understand the concept of plastics. This uses special polymer paints and an electrostatic process... much different than metal.

Or, do it yourself:
