Some people around here run the markers with their fogs on as DRLs.
Seems pointless to me, just turn on the headlights.

As for the factory DRLs...
If you have the OEM HID headlights, then the DRLs are what is the high beam on the halogen headlight units, BUT you have regular incandescent bulbs in there.

If I remember correctly, the bulb is a 3157.
Just go to Amazon and find a pair of LED 'daylight' or 5000k LED bulbs and install them.

Re: 2011-2013 Foglight upgrade Option

Has anyone been able to compare light output of the Amazon version to the JW Speaker version?

Re: 2011-2013 Foglight upgrade Option

Update on my lights. I am absolutely loving them. The light output is crazy. Very, very happy I did this upgrade. When you aim them correctly it's a must with night driving.

Re: 2011-2013 Foglight upgrade Option

Has anyone used the Amazon version? I'm looking for a middle of the road upgrade as I'm not willing to drop 400 bones on fogs.

Re: 2011-2013 Foglight upgrade Option

Just pull the trigger....

Anything you buy will be better than the OEM FOGS so in that sense you will have upgraded your fogs.

The JW fogs seem to be the bench mark but even the knock offs have to be at least somewhere close.

If the lenses are basically the same then what you are giving up on is the longevity as the knock offs might not pot the PCB to the heat sink very well.

Re: 2011-2013 Foglight upgrade Option

I have a couple pairs of two different style of LED replacement fog lights I bought to test but never got around to it. They are okay quality, definitely not JWS but don't carry that huge price tag. For the money, I am thinking that they still gotta be better than the stock ones.

If anyone wants to give them a try to compare, I need to sell them as I am moving and the less I have to move, the better. $25 a pair for fair and reasonable USPS shipping.

Re: 2011-2013 Foglight upgrade Option

So I bought the $45 60 watt set from amazon.
The exact description was: Xprite 4" Inch 60W Cree Led Fog Lights for Jeep Wrangler 1997-2016 JK TJ LJ Off Road Fog Lamps

These showed up nicely packaged and with adapter cables that worked on my 2011 plug and play. They are brighter than stock for sure but they are also more blue (6000k). I was trying to match the fogs to the factory HIDs and I failed on that one. Oh well at least I have more light.

Install and alignment took about 45 minutes and was super easy.

Re: 2011-2013 Foglight upgrade Option

Hmmm...not too bad for cheapies. Here's a post where I am showing a similar angle with my XD LED headlights and JWS fog lights for comparison.
What's the verdict on LED headlight bulbs vs. HID?

The more comments I read about OPT7 LED bulbs on these forums, the less likely I would ever be to purchase them.

My first set of LED headlights was from V-LEDs.
They were about 15 months old (and still functioning) when I replaced them with the Xtreme LEDs from Xenon Depot.

It's only been a few weeks, but they are still working fine.
Though I do have CANBUS capacitor/resistor units on each side to ensure no flickering.

I just don't like any of the LED headlight bulbs that use cooling fans.

It's crazy because these are so simple. Hook them up to the converter and it should be voila ... light. I don't get it.
