Guys I have been playing around with different styles of CREE LED bulbs that I find on ebay.

After trying and recommending the White CREE 3157 dual intensity Projector style rated at 60 watts 12x5 watts LEDS.

I saw this new styled bulb for REFLECTOR styled lights that have the LEDS firing into the reflector bowls.

This bulb only has 4 LEDs mounted to it and is rated at 20 watt consumption 4x5 watts LEDs

Side by side comparison

LEFT (of photo)

Reflector Style CREE LED bulb

Aluminum construction

4 LEDS

RIGHT (of photo)

Projector style CREE LED bulb

8 radially mounted bulbs

4 axially mounted bulbs (behind the projector)

Aluminum and plastic construction

12 LEDS

Compatible with:

US spec headlights for DRLs.

SRT/Ecode headlights for both DRL(High mode) and park/running lights(low mode) at nigth.

Pics of the truck show that the reflector bulb is installed in the passenger side headlight while the projector style is installed in the drivers side headlight. (This is in park light mode I did the SRT/EURO park light mod and this is actually the dim setting in the first pic.)

Looking at them head on the out put looks the same. The Second pic was full bright DRL mode on a rainy day.

Side note: people have asked about putting HID in the DRL as supplemental high beams. I don't endorse this practice because what I discovered with the DRLs are the the light pattern extends about 100 to 150 feet infront of the vehicle in highpower DRL mode but the height of the beam is not controlled so light is scattered up to as high as 15 to 20 feet in the air so this would definitely cause glare to oncoming motorists. So this would not make them good highbeams because of the very limited range.

Thanks for the info. I still have the ones on the right that you recommended a while back and they are performing great. Much better than the other LED style I used in the past. They are a clean white vs the purple/blue color that most ebay users sell.

THanks again!

Hey Guys,

Just installed the REFLECTOR styled LED DRLs this past weekend. They look really good and seem better than the stock ones. Happy I did this as the old ones seem to be on their way out, the bulb was burnt on one side.

O one thing, when you do instal a quick tip. At first I did not have the polarity right and the LED would not light up. All I had to do was flip the LED bulb in the socket for it to work.

Thanks again!!

Hi Guys,

Bad luck with the one suggested in this post. They did not last a year. This week I noted one DRL was out and was shocked. The are LED they should last way longer than 1 year. So I pop the hood and noted that the LED light/diode popped off the board. So I ordered new ones.

Today I went to install and was like well lets do this in pairs. SOOOO happy I did, the DRL on the drivers side lit but was in far less a state than I would hope.

See pic.

So for the new ones I went with SYLVANIA ZEVO 3157 White LED Bulb (Pack of 2) on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-ZEVO-3157-White-Bulb/dp/B01A77QW52

They are a known brand and have a lifetime Warranty.

Last time I get LED off ebay.

Will update on how they look...

Yeah I feel bad recommending these ....

I have only been able to get a year out of them.

I have a set of the ZEVO in my 2011

And still running these in the 2012.
I am gonna either go back to the projector style or the Zevos when these crap out.

Reporting on more bulbs.

2011 running ZEVOs

2012 running these : https://www.theretrofitsource.com/led-lighting/led-bulbs/7443-morimoto-x-vf-led.html

Color is closer to the 5K versus 6k so alot more yellow than my Headlights not the old reflector styled ones matched my OSRAM CBI bulbs.

I also have to wired as park in the pics above and they give off more line in the 5 watt mode than the ZEVOs do. I will see how long these morimoto bulbs last but I am satified with them but they are double the price of a set of ZEVOs.
