2011 factory HID to 2014 factory HID coversion

So...I'm obsessed with the 2014 factory HID headlights with LED DRLs. But...I have a 2011 Limited with factory HIDs. I figured I'd try a conversion. After days of pouring over wiring diagrams, comparing pin-out diagrams, and building a crazy wiring spreadsheet, I convinced myself I could do it.

This week I purchased a set of 2014 export headlights (with clear side reflectors.) They arrived today so I went to work.

Success. Looks like all circuits work as designed. Only thing I need to work on is a resistor for the fast flash on the LED turn signal.

I am installing the 2014 grille and complete bumper in the coming week or two...just trying to source the parts.

nice work and sign me up for one! Like you I would like to do this swap with my '11 overland I just don't have the time to dig into the wiring. How extensive is the wiring harness you created?

Well, I didn't create a plug and play harness. I disassembled the 5 2011 factory plugs and created a map/diagram to relocate the wires into the 1 2014 16-pin connector. I did it this way because I don't like extra wire.

Soon as i complete mine, I will try to source the connectors so I can build TRUE plug-and-play harnesses.

is the wiring and plugs different with the Euro version? Is your '11 the euro version?

Nope, I have a US-spec truck. Wiring and plugs for the Euro-spec lights are same the same as the US-spec lights. No change.

Lol! My bad. The front fender reminded me of an rx7. Nice ride. Headlights are awesome too!

Re: 2011 factory HID to 2014 factory HID coversion

I was going to ask what your plans were to fill the gap between the 11-13 bumper and 14 light housing but see you are adding the 14+ front clip. Have you confirmed that it's a direct bolt-on?

I would love to find a way to disguise the gap when installing 14 HIDs as I really dig the new style lights with 11-13 clip. Otherwise, this seems like an overkill and costly mod just to gain the updated lights.

The 2014 front bumper, grille, and headlights are direct bolt-on. Hood and fenders don't change.

For me, the conversion was a no-brainer. I love the 2014 front end, but hate the rear. Also, my truck is almost paid off so Im not about to trade it in. So by doing the conversion, I get to have the best (for me) of both year models.
