2012 SRT Bixenon on a 2012 Altitude

Good evening

Was coming up on the end of a lease on my 12' WK2 Altitude and was faced with a choice: buy mine or lease a new one. Decided to buy my Jeep and do some proper mods. I did want an 8 speed trans but whatever.

Anyway- I'm going to be doing a writeup on the 12' SRT Bixenon headlights with black bezels. Picked them up finally via eBay

68086418AA (Right/Passenger side)

68086419AA (Left/Driver Side)

Yes - previous owner had them "tinted" / painted at a shop. While it does look pretty cool I rather have the light output and show off the black bezels/projectors so I'm going to be stripping the tint.

I have a wire harness coming from our good friend here Mr. "Jeep_addicted"

I also picked up a Pittsburgh Tools (from Harbor Freight) Hand Riveter to take care of the rivets on the front bumper that may or may not break during the removal process.

I'll keep you guys posted

haha hey again dude. Yes. Sorry thought I had mentioned that. That's what I'm thinking... I would rather not eff these up. I did try a "test" area with Naptha tonight as well as Goof Off - didn't even do anything. Probably didn't let those products soak in enough but it has me nervous. I'll call some shops tomorrow.

Yea hopefully they didn't sand them or rough them up before painting! Good call on reaching out to a shop on this one

Shop will wet sand them down and buff them back out most likely. Similar to a headlight restoration system when your lenses fog up. You can actually buy that type of kit at Walmart or Autozone and DIY

On a side note, I need to stay off of these forums. I bought my Jeep for a daily driver, and here I am spending more money and modding this more than my weekend car. haha

haha trust me. Took me 2 years to pull the trigger on these units. Finally got a good deal on eBay.

I dropped these off at a body shop today to have them stripped

He's going to wet sand, buff then re-clear them. Hopefully they turn out proper!

I will! I want to do a nice writeup actually. Thanks again for getting those out so quickly. Sounds like the body shop might have these headlights stripped of the painted on tint tonight -

Re: 2012 SRT Bixenon on a 2012 Altitude

Welp

This has been brutal. Got the headlights back from a body shop today who went ahead and wet sanded up to 2500 grit. The paint is gone alright but now I have lenses with scratches all over them. These scratches must be from the original body shop who scuffed them up to get the paint to grab. If anybody has any ideas I am just going to run up to the store to get some rubbing compound. Any ideas/suggestions please feel free. The surface of the lenses with just my hand feels completely smooth so this is definitely annoying.
