2014 adding a hitch / tow package

I need suggestions on which is best option to add a receiver hitch to 2014 Grand Cherokee. I do not have the tow package and wanting to tow a trailer. Should I buy aftermarket? OEM? Thanks!

Depends on what you want to spend. I bought an aftermarket hitch online. Shipped for free, installed myself. $112.

Re: 2014 adding a hitch / tow package

I went ahead and had the dealership install the OEM setup on my 2015 Limited 4x4. I was in a little hurry because I had an unexpected situation come up that required me to tow a small trailer. I just decided to go with the OEM since it was a proven system. Plus, you also have to have the dealership flash your ECM so it recognizes the electrical hook-up. Without the flash you won't have lights to the trailer.

I really like the stock look! Some of the aftermarket hitches mount below the bumper and ride too low (for my tastes)! Good luck!

Personally, I prefer the look of the OEM towing setup. Yes, a bit more money. You can, however, do the physically installation yourself and just have the dealer flash the system to activate the wiring harness. You need both the hitch receiver "kit" and the wiring pigtail.

2014 adding a hitch / tow package

Here is an aftermarket hitch made by Curt that I installed on my 2014. I was never really happy with the look to be honest.

My vote is for the factory hitch.

Factory (day I picked up my 2015):

My vote is for the OEM hitch.... Much cleaner look. I just installed it this past weekend on my 2015 limited. There is a great installation thread about by mineralsc with photos. Between that and the instructions, my installation went smooth. It took just under 3 hours and was done in my driveway without jackstands.

My two cents... use a 1/2" drive torque wrench for the 21mm hitch fastening bolts. I believe 122 Ft lbs. is called for. I got the RH side rearmost one ( above the muffler ) with a crows foot attached. Last thing you want to happen is for them to come loose.

I also ordered the OEM electrical connector. Without it you'll be left with a raw opening.

This is mine. Draw tite.

$100. Reason i dont like the trim of the oem look. Also paying $500 u still dont get load leveling shocks or bigger alt to get the max tow rating of 7400 lbs. Id rather save my money to add all the extras myself that the dealer should install but doesnt.
