2014 GC Cargo Light

Proud new papa of a 2014 GC Summit in Granite and switching to LED's...

The manual lists this bulb as a 214-2 and it crosses over to a festoon style. However, all the info I am seeing on here shows it is a 194 style.
Which is it really?
Is there a way to get to them without removing the entire trim piece?

It's a 194. I have the spare festoons I ordered in the garage as evidence of the mistake.

Re: 2014 GC Cargo Light

Does anyone know how to remove the plastic housing in the cargo area in order to replace bulb with a LED one?

Re: 2014 GC Cargo Light

You need to remove the entire interior tail gate panel. It is held on with panel clips.

The best way to remove the panel is start from one side along the upper section of the panel frames the tail gate window. I used a flat crowbar wrapped in a shop cloth, then work your way down towards the bottom on the panel. The clips near the wiper are the hardest to pop out, I ended braking one.

Once the panel is removed, the lights pop out from behind, thorn you need to remove the lens, they have 3 clips that hold them to the light housing.

Re: 2014 GC Cargo Light

Found that the liner does not need to be removed to replace the two bulbs. It requires careful prying of the lenses off the front and pulling the lense housing through. Put the new bulbs in snap the lense back on and the push the housing back into the liner. They only line up a certain way so pay attention. I have done this twice now with no problem or anything scratched or broken.

After reading this I went back to the Jeep and finally replaced the two bulbs without liner removal. Worked perfectly!!

STEP 1:
Remove lens cover by inserting a thin flat screwdriver tip into the groove and slightly under the lens edge. Pry it slowly until it loosens and can be removed.

BlckWK2_BluLED_Tailgate002.JPG

STEP 2:
You now need to remove the bulb housing. Just pull it out of the hole. I was able to remove/install the bulb while the housing was in the hole but found that the lens cover will not be able to push back on since it will push the bulb housing up and away. That is why the housing needs to be pulled out prior to re-installing the lens cover.

STEP 3:
Once you swap the bulbs out its time to replace the lens cover first! Then insert the bulb housing back into its hole (there are slots to guide it). Push the lens cover to snap it all into place. DONE!

Re: 2014 GC Cargo Light

I switched mine and put in blue LEDs without removing the panel also the same way. See pics.

WATacoRider

See attached pics; wired LED strip lights to same switch that controls lights in rear hatch when it opens.

At the moment I've been traveling, when I get back I'll post more complete detail on how all the lighting changes I've made to my 2014 GC Overland were done.

Go to Jeep Forum Discussion; GC WK2; Tech Tips/DIY/How To; open "LED Approach/Entry/Puddle Lighting Mod write up!!!" To see pics of all the lighting mods I've made. Also a list of the products that were used.
