2014 GC limited noob! Need help

Just picked up a 2014 grand cherokee 4x4 limited in white! F*****g love it. Was never a jeep guy but this one changed my mind.

But anywho i have a question on color matching the black textured parts on the body. I know the overland comes with the way i like it already. But this one was a steal. Soooo i wanna know whats easier? I want the front and rear black textured valences colormatched white. I have searched n searched and cant find a place who sells them non texutred. I want the rear one between the exhaust n bumper, and the front between the chrome insert and bumper. And the side skirts if possible too.

Can anyone help me out?

Lots of parts sites will have part diagrams like the one linked below (I just keep this one bookmarked for reference when I need Part #'s). Than I search google or call the dealership to confirm it is the part I need (IE primed vs textured).

http://www.quirkparts.com/auto-parts...ber=68143105ac

Below is taken from a prior thread I also bookmarked - so can't take credit for it. All of the parts to make it look like and Overland are not too cheap. Plus you need to pay to paint them.

I also have a Limited and currently have the fender flares incoming right now. Spent the day shopping some quotes to get them painted to color matched in the next week or two.

2014 Overland Paintable Wheel Flares $281.12
5JQ75TZZAA Left Front Wheel Flare
5JQ76TZZAA Right Front Wheel Flare
5JQ77TZZAA Left Rear Door Wheel Flare
5JQ78TZZAA Right Rear Door Wheel Flare
5JQ79TZZAA Left Rear Quarter Panel Wheel Flare
5JQ80TZZAA Right Rear Quarter Panel Wheel Flare

2014 Overland Paintable Body Parts
1WL30TZZAC Front Lower Bumper Cover $237.60
1VQ68TZZAA Rear Lower Bumper Cover $188.10
5PU65TZZAB Left Rocker Molding $135.00
5PU66TZZAB Right Rocker Molding $115.20

Most of those larger pieces have a "core" charge of $100 tacked onto the base price. IE you need return the original part you are replacing to the vendor. From here they give you the "core chare" (or deposit back).

Personally, I ordered by rear lower bumper from the dealership. It cost a bit more than the online sites, but I didn't have to deal with the hassle of shipping the original part back and waiting for them to reimburse my card. I just walked into the dealership and dropped it off. Clean and easy.

Why aren't the fenders on the Limited paintable?

Some people have sanded the textured ones and have had them painted. Can do either or from what I have seen. Although some people in previous posts have reported some shops won't sand and paint the textured parts.

And yes the rocker ones are for the sides.

I'm curious as to the difference between the paintable and non-paintable parts. Seems weird. You would think just a sand, proper primer and paint will be good.

In theory, anything is paintable.

The biggest differences would be:

1) The black parts are textured, which means they wouldn't properly match the smooth finish of the other body parts without sanding them smooth. Plus, it's hard to paint a textured surface and still get an even coating. If you have someone who is really good at surface prep, you should still get a smooth result by sanding and painting. However, if your paint guy is more ape than artist, having paint-ready parts will likely yield a better result.

2) The textured parts usually have the color injected into the plastic itself, which creates a different surface. On the one hand, it means there's no bare plastic or primer to show through when scratched. On the other, it creates a slippery surface that needs extra prep to allow paint to adhere to it properly.

One thing to consider if you plan on matching existing paint:

Lighter colors will be easier to match, with white being the easiest. Black is usually easy for new vehicles, but insanely hard for older ones since black fades over time. Colors like red, blue and other primary shades tend to be the hardest to match since they often are the most affected by surrounding light. That's where the paint code is crucial, though different surface types can affect the deepness of the color. That's why VW had issues early on with matching the plastic and metal parts on the new generation yellow Beetles.
