I laid out the new parts across the engine cover oriented as if they were installed and used them as a guide on which way to pry to release each finger tab. The fingers lock into rectangular holes with tight tolerances. Guys with big hands and forearms- good luck. You need to pry/push the tabs sideways while pushing in on the grille insert. A twisting/prying action with a stubby flat blade screwdriver type of tool worked best for me in the middle areas of the grille. A large long shaft flat blade screw driver from the top worked well on the outer edge tabs at both ends of grille. Wife assisted, holding a good flashlight and holding grille top when needed.

I am planning on doing this. Is the black cover supposed to actually be removed using the from the top technique? I messed with it yesterday to see how hard it would actually be and couldn't figure out how to get the black cover to separate from the fascia.

I should also mention that I got as far as popping the cover clips out but then it seemed that I was bending the front fascia while messing with it. Don't want to break anything on my new jeep.

The top cover does not come off. That's why this job is a bit difficult. The grille fascia is quite flexible.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Chrome Grille available?

Ordered it yesterday from wholesalemopar.com. They said it's backordered... how long did you all have to wait?

The instructions earlier in this thread said:

1) Pop the hood, open those two plastic rivets right in the front and pull the plastic up (there are two male/female slots that will pop)

The top cover does not come off but you pop it loose so you can pull it up and out a little to gain access to the grille insert tabs. It's not a lot of room but enough to get the job done.

Ahh. Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification. I would have probably broke it off thinking it did come off.
