Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Finally got the kit installed on Saturday, XD 5k + canbus.
Everything went fine with out removing bumper(few scraped knuckles). Disabled DRLs in menu prior to install. Polarity was wrong on driver side but got it sorted in 5 sec since knew what to look for (the light didn't turn on at all originally). The relays have audible buzz with hood open and a bit less but still audible when hood is closed on both sides. Everything else ballast and canbus are dead quite and COLD, no temp change at all. Very solid cut off line at perfect level just at the height of trunk of most cars in front of me with appropriate distance. Have a wire shadow going from center to drive side but not noticeable enough to futs around with it.

Now for the light output compared to halogens as you can imagine its night(halogens) and day(HIDs)... 5k in terms of color looks very white to me with just a hint of blue, i'd say they are same color as what i had on FX35 only a bit brighter.

Had a 2hr drive last night and i could not be happier everything works as advertised, great reach across entire field of view.

I do kind of miss DRLs, so i might do something with fogs to act like ones. Probably get Hoen yellow endurance h11 bulbs and wire to always on when car is running.

Mega8489 - What type of vehicle do you have the kit installed in? Is it a WK2 cherokee? It sounds like you don't have the kit hooked up properly if the relays are buzzing. Please give us a call toll free @ 1-877-522-2701.

antsjeep - Thanks for the feedback. That's also an H7 bulb, whereas the Cherokee uses an H11 bulb (completely different).

ok now i'm a bit worried...
My relays do buzz, everything else ballasts and canbus are silent.
Nothing is heating up...
Everything works correctly.

should I be worried?
I had 2hr long drive last sun and no sign of malfunction.

My car is set to turn light on on entry and it fires up like a champ every time.
I also have lights on Auto and works every time.

Do you guys have the CANBUS fix connected to the ballast?

Yes - we have changed the design. I just want to make sure that it is plugged into the right place. Steve

The correct place would be between relay and bulb?

And if its not but everything works what are the implications?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Hi,

The relay should not be buzzing. The correct place is in between your OE harness and our harness (before the relay).

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

So i went back to my installer over the weekend to have it looked at.

Here is what we found:

If canbus is installed between OE harness and relay the lights wont turn on at all. We checked every harness and polarity on each. Unless we moved it between relay and ballast it just doesn't want to work. Additionally when engine off lights on there is no buzzing on any component. Engine on + lights on the relay buzzes.

Now to really mind bugling stuff. After we took apart passenger side and tried to move canbus between OE harness and relay we got same result = no light. After putting everything back the way it was originally the light is back but now a new issue came up. When i turn light off the passenger side turns off 5-7 seconds after the driver side does. I call it the hidden wink feature

The DRLs were turned off prior to install.
I get no warnings of any sort on dash.

Could it be that my car doesn't even need canbus since DRLs are turned off? We didn't try it but it just occurred to me.

Any help is appreciated.

My main concern is: am i bound to fry something, melt headlight housing or introduce battery drain.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Hi,

Sounds like there is either an issue with the can bus component or that you simply need to reverse the polarity.

Would it be possible to give you a call to discuss? May be easier to do so over the phone as opposed to back and forth through messages. Send me a PM with your phone number, and I will give you a call to discuss.

We actually tried polarity change but still got no lights on.
