Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Hi,

A relay harness is included with the Xtreme kit but a canbus fix is not. Using coupon code MOPARHID will get that included for you. We did this for 2011+ forum members as a relay harness+can bus fix is required. With the previous generation Cherokee only a relay harness was required. Definitely take advantage of the MOPARHID coupon code when ordering a kit for your cherokee.

Well, my kit came in today and I got it all installed, but after about a minute, one of the canbus modules popped.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Hi,
It sounds like you had the capacitor polarity hooked up backwards. Please give me a call tomorrow so we can get this taken care of. Take a look at the instruction guide that came with the kit for polarity instructions.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

So here's a question:

Today I pulled everything out and took the bumper cover off to better button everything up and and run the wires a little neater.

For those playing along at home, one of the CANBUS modules popped (which Steve @ XenonDepot quickly dispatched a replacement for) and while I'm waiting for the new one I figured I'd take my existing one and switch it over from the driver's side (good) to the passenger side (broken) since it's a little tighter space-wise and it'd be harder to add later on.

When running on the driver's side, the CANBUS module remained cool in operation. It got a little warm, but never hot. While running on the passenger's side, however, the damn thing got EXTREMELY hot. All this time, both of the lights are on and functioning normally. Fearing it too would pop, I shut everything off, disconnected it, and restored it to the driver's side where it continues to function and run cool.

When I spoke to Steve, he seemed to think that it wasn't an issue of polarity since it's set up exactly the same as the configuration that works and it could have been a bad CANBUS. But now, I got the same kind of heating issue that led to the failure of the original unit.

So the $75000 question is WTF is causing this?

This may sound strange but I am having a similar problem. Do me a favor though and try your headlights on auto and then on manual on and see if the heat problem persists.

I don't know why but on mine the passenger side hid fog will only turn on 50% of the time when manually turned on, switch it to auto when it's dark out and everything works just fine. I have also already popped one canbus fix on my drivers side headlamp though.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

nikon858: Do you have one of our kits installed?

FryingPan: To confirm, do you have the canbus fix hooked up in between the relay harness and your factory wiring (before the relay) or do you have one end of the canbus fix hooked up to the ballast?

Steve
