Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Update
I might consider removing the entire hid kit, lows and fogs. The relays melted where it was connected to the fuse box. The car started to show low battery voltage message because it was shorting, but the messages would only come on here and there so I didn't bother doing anything until tonight. After dinner I went to start my car to noticed it wouldn't turn and all power functions were off, wouldn't even unlock. I tried jump starting the car, and with that no luck either. So I observed the relays connected to the fuse box and saw that it was melted beyond recognition, after removing the relay terminals and cleaning the area up and also detaching the positive terminal, the car reset and all issues was resolved. I am kinda clueless on this right now deciding should I still keep my hids, any insights would be appreciated.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Are you sure that the wires were properly connected? It almost sounds like they were moving and arcing against the terminal. The arcing would cause additional heat...

Had my kit in for about a month and a half, just noticed tonight that the passenger side has a weird shadow in it, curious to know if anyone else experienced this?

Other than that really happy with the light output vs the stock halogens.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

It appears that the passenger side may not be twisted in all the way. Please double check to see if the bulb is twisted in properly. Also, make sure to remove the white spacer rings that the bulbs ship with -- they are just there to secure the bulb during packaging.

Glad to hear that you're enjoying the HID kit!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Just purchased today - the XD 4300K philips bulb kit for a 2015 JGC Limited.

I read through everything here. Besides the polarity, any other tips for the install? I plan on removing the bumper. I would like to mount all wires so I can access them without pulling the bumper. What's the best mounting points in order to achieve that? Hopefully, it's a set it and forget it situation and nothing needs fixing for many years.

I read someone needed to extend the wire on the driver's side. I would really not want to do this as I don't know what wire to use, where to get it, how to attach it, etc. etc. Is the included hardware/wires all I need for the install?

Thanks!!

The HID kits are designed to be plug n play so it's just a matter of finding the right spot to mount the components to your preference. HID lights are going to last longer than a halogen bulb so lifespan should not be a concern.

You shouldn't have to extend any wires as the majority who have installed the Xtreme HID in the Grand Cherokee haven't had to do so.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Did everyone have to change out the terminal connections on the XD wires?? I fitted the positive connection onto the screw on the fuse box, but it was too small for that.
Is there another location that can be used?? Cutting up the braided wire will leave a mess at the end I presume.
I'd rather not cut it off and install a larger one. I haven't even checked the negative locations for fitment. Did those have to be changed to larger ones also?

Not truly plug and play for the casual DIY'er when you have to start cutting things up.

As far as I know, I don't think anyone has had to change or modify the connectors on the relay harness.

You can slightly cut the terminal connector and stretch it to make it wider for you to be able to mount it.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Danny at XenonDepot,

What is the gauge of the relay wire so I can get the appropriate replacement terminal connector?

Here's a link to this year when you replied to someone with the same issue of the small connection. 2014 XenonDepot JGC HID Kit Install W/Pics

Some people mentioned a set of instructions specific to the jeep grand cherokee. Do you have a link to this?

Thanks

They are 18 AWG gauge wires.

As for instructions for the Grand Cherokee, looks like you already found the link with the link you provided regarding the terminal connector.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

I installed the xtreme kit tonight. They look great. What an improvement!

The wire lengths were adequate. However, I did have to change out the positive terminal connectors to larger ones. Both positive posts (fuse box and jump start locations) were too large for the supplied connector. I did have to change polarity on both sides.

I ran into one issue. One side didn't come on. I used ballast from the good side. Light came on. So I guess the other ballast was bad right? However, the "bad ballast" fired up the other side. So both lights are now working.

Should I be concerned that one ballast works on one side, but not the other? I feel like it should. Is it a bad ballast?

Thank you very much. Otherwise, I am very happy with it.
