Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Hi,

I was saying that these are really the only halogen bulbs I would consider a functional upgrade (assuming you weren't planning on going HID).

Take a look at the Phillips Diamond Vision H11 halogen bulbs if you are purely going after the whiter light. I have not used these myself, though.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

I can't speak for the Diamond vision, but the Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited bulbs are a great option if you're looking to improve color and light. Obviously not like HID, but the best halogen upgrade I've tried.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

I'm looking to buy your H11 HID Drop In Kit for my vehicle and my question is, do I use the CanBus option or the Chrysler 2015+ option? Not sure I can tell the difference besides price. Though mine is a 2015 JGC Altitude if that makes a difference.

My understanding was that I just needed to do the HID kit w/ Canbus adapters ($18.99)?

I'd like to order today to take advantage of free shipping and 20% BF sale.

Thanks for anyone who can help.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

@madrussian - This is more geared towards the 2015 Ram and Chrysler vehicles. We have had 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners install the kit with just the canBUS option though.

I was thinking of going the easy route and just upgrade my bulbs to the H11 Philips X-treme Ultinon LED Bulbs as I thought these would be 3x brighter: 725lm total vs. 2400lm total. But after help from the forums, I was informed that this would not be the case...

So, I canceled that order (Bulbs happened to be back ordered for a week anyway) and I placed a replacement order for the H11 Xtreme Digital HID Conversion Kits [HID Color:Philips Bulb Upgrade 4300K].

I've just spend the last two hours reading this whole thread and look forward to a clean install. I'm a little hesitant to remove the bumper, but with the help from the forums, it doesn't look like it'll be too hard.

Now that I will will be removing the bumper I was thinking of putting a 20" LED light bar in the lower Air Dam behind the grille. Living by the coast, we experience more than our fair share of fog and feel this would be a nice addition. However, I don't feel like dropping $900 on a Rigid light bar.... found a company OPT7 that has reasonable pricing bars and may go that route.

Will post pics when all finished. Thanks to the guys at KBcarstuff.com for helping me along the way.
So, little over a year later, I've finally installed the Xtreme HIDs. (and 20" lightbar)
1. During tests (Engine Off) with bumper still off, they worked fine.
2. Put bumper back on, started car. Both worked. Then driver side went out. Loud buzzing. (See Photo)
3. Tested again with engine off, no buzz, no driver side light.

Very Strange.... So HIDs currently not working.

Problem Solving ideas:

1. I forgot (DUH) to install the CAN BUS relay fix. Will take bumper off again tonight and hope this is the fix.

Picture of them all working without engine started. Once engine went on, drivers side went out and large buzzing from the ballast.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

Canbus relay fixed issue. Super happy with how it turned out.

Update: CEL came on... looking for a way to reset it. Thought my dealer mentioned that if I go into ACC mode and press the brake 4 times, turn off then turn on it resets... However, don't think I remembered properly bc its still showing.

Anyone know how to reset the CEL without doing to dealer or Autozone?

Thanks.

That's great to hear!
Also I love the idea of mounting that led light bar there. What did you mount to and how?
What size?
I want to do something like that. I have a bar on my ATV and it's amazing at night.

This was an Opti-7 22'' light bar which I mounted to the tubular frame for the bumper. I had to pre-drill the frame and then use SS self tapping screws to secure mount to frame. Marked the center of the light bar and then the center of the frame. Thankfully, the mounting bracket was the perfect vertical height to align directly in the center of the lower fascia. Fits perfectly and looks like it was made for it. Super clean look. Plus this thing is BRIGHT. Throws off tons of light and is great for our dimly light roads at night... Do turn it off though when I see an oncoming car.

Ran the switch through a grommet in the firewall and then mounted it next to the gas cap switch on the drivers side dash. Had to remove the glovebox, and some trim pieces. Took a little time and some finesse, but it gives the custom look i was trying to achieve. Glad I took the time to do it myself as I was quoted $1,100 for the install.
