Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

For everybody to know.

I installed these on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V6 last night.

For bulb installation, the only way the bulbs fit tightly into the housing was if I just used the old rubber seal from my halogen bulbs. After that, the passenger headlight did not turn on at first. I reversed polarity and it still did not turn on. I tried switching the passenger and driver side ballasts and sure enough it finally came on.

I ordered the 5000k Extreme Bulbs, unfortunately they are not the crisp white I was going for.. yellowish in fact. Kinda disappointed. I would have ordered the 6500k if I knew they looked like this.

@Ironman11 - 5k should be more of a pure white. Let me know if you still prefer 6500k, and I can certainly do my best to work with you.

Have you considered the OEM led fogs that became available somewhat recently? Some members have already put them in and have been very happy with both the light output and aesthetics.

I run HID's in my fogs for a long time now without issue.

I like the HID light. It is pretty cool even in the daytime.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee HID Kit Installation

I've been having a bit of an issue with my HID's recently and was hoping that I could get some help/ feedback.

I have a 2015 Grand Cherokee Altitude. A few months ago I purchased the DDM Tuning Plus Canbus HID Kit 35w, which is the kit that was recommended by many of the members here and by DDM. I've had DDM kits in 2 of my previous cars and have never had an issue before nor am I blaming DDM. Shortly after I installed the kit my driver side headlight would turn off and turn back on. It seems to be going on and off at random times and doesn't seem like there is much of a pattern. Usually, when I start the car, shift into reverse and then shift into drive about 10 seconds later the driver side headlight will go off and then back on again (this seems to occur most often). After that the on/off issue happens at random. Sometimes it won't go off at all again during my drive, sometimes it will go on and off a lot and sometimes it will go off and not turn back on. If it goes off and doesn't turn back on, at a stop light if I turn the car off and back on again the headlight will turn on again. This only ever happens on the driver side.

What I have done so far:

At first I thought it may be a bad ballast, so I switched ballasts from driver side to passenger side. If it was a bad ballast, my passenger side would then have the on/off headlight issue. This didn't solve the issue. My passenger side headlight worked fine and my driver side headlight continued to turn on and off at random.

I thought maybe then it was a bad bulb. The installation was a bit tough since I didn't remove my bumper and I know I banged up the bulb a bit so I thought for sure the bulb was bad. I ordered a new set of bulbs from DDM, the Ultra HID Replacement Bulbs (the same ones that came with the original kit). This past weekend I replaced the driver side bulb. I was super careful, I wore rubber gloves so I didn't get an finger grease on the bulbs and I didn't bang it up at all, overall a super smooth installation. I turned the car on, shifted into reverse and about 10 seconds after I shifted into driver, sure enough the driver side headlight turns off and back on again.

I know that DDM offers the Error Code Eliminators and the Dual Relay Harness but I thought the reason for the Plus Canbus kit was so you don't need either of those. It sounds to me like the relay harness will solve the issue, but before I purchase either of those I wanted to see if anyone else was having this issue and what they've done to fix it.

I really don't think this has anything to do with factory electrical because when I purchased the jeep it had the stock halogen bulbs and I never had this issue so it has to have something to do with the HID kit.

DDM said that every car is different and the Ultra Canbus HID Kit might to the trick. They also told me to unplug my battery to reset everything. I'm not in any hurry to do that as I've read about bad things happening.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. This s driving me insane. DDM has been helpful, but everyone I've talked to has recommended something different.

Thanks in advance for your time and help!
