2014 Grand Cherokee Seat Rattle

This is an annoying rattle that has bothered me for a while in a 2014 Grand Cherokee and finally found the source. Its really hard to track down where these rattles are coming from sometimes sound bounces around a lot. I was convinced this one was in the passengers door but it ended up being inside of the passenger seat. very easy quick fix, the backs of the seats pop off easy with no tools needed. A piece of foam weather stripping to keep the offending rattle making piece of plastic from moving and fixed. Hope this saves time for someone was frustrating tracking this one down.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Seat Rattle

This is good to know. Is it that easy to pull out the back? I will take a quick look later tonight. There are some noticeable rattles sometimes coming from the rear trunk window or rear area- especially over bumps.

Yeah its easy i couldnt figure it out until read that section in the shop manual.
Grab hold of the very bottom edge of the plastic cover and pull two clips will pop loose and top will still be attached. Then push in hard on the top and pull down at the sametime. Thats it whole plastic cover comes off.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Seat Rattle

i'm having trouble locating where the sound is coming from in the rear area on my 2015 as well. Do you think you can upload a video of taking the covers off the seats?

Thanks!

Thanks. I can wait until Friday if you can do it! By passenger seat, you do mean the front seat right? I was mimicking the scenario of driving on an uneven/bumpy surface by just hitting the passenger seat and I can definitely hear the rattle more consistently. Even on the driver's side, I hear it, but maybe if someone is actually sitting there, the noise is reduced?

Does that seem right?

Yes correct front passenger seat. If you hit it you can hear it. And yes drivers seat does it also but like you said someone will always be sitting in ot so it stops it from rattling.

I tried to do a clip of removing the back cover but you need both hands to remove it and then I cant hold the phone so I didn't have much success.

Try this, place one hand on the lower right edge and the other on the lower left edge and pull straight outward and the left and right clips will pop freeing the bottom. Then place one hand on the top left and one hand on the top right push inward fairly hard and while doing that pull downward and it comes off. sorry the video clip didn't work out.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Seat Rattle

Greetings,

Intersting find. In my 2011, I have a rattle coming from the front passenger seat which started around 6 months after I got the JGC. Never thought to look into because either somebody is seating or if the tunes are up you can not hear it. I have to check this out sometime next week when I have time.

Best for now.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Seat Rattle

Since I have been on a mission recently to get rid of all the rattles on my 2014 Summit here is one more that was hard to track down. This is the flap in the cargo area that rests against the back of the back seats. This one is not constant its one that mild bumps seem to set off.

That cargo area sunshade can cause some also, that thing was more of a nuisance then it was worth, always in the way every time I wanted to put the seats down. and what's it do? partially covers what is in the back? windows already are tinted dark not much to see anyway. I relocated that pos thing to the corner of the garage.

That flap is interesting because it has to function and slide to allow the seats to fold- so we can't really glue it. What would be a good solution to reduce this flapping? I rarely use the cargo privacy cover myself- find it to be a little too low especially if you have larger parcels. The tint works. What would the tint percent be in the rear windows, cargo door? 15%? 20%?
