The V1 has bailed me out many times, already paid for itself easily. A good cop can beat a radar detector in some cases but most are too lazy to do it.

I'll give it a try next weekend and report back to you guys.

Too funny! I currently have a 335xi and am looking at an Overland this fall. Love the turbo, but car is getting small & even with V1 & Laser Interceptor there are too many damned speed traps.

Re: 2014 Hardwire Radar Detector

There's no doubt in my mind that my 9500 has paid for itself. It's obviously great on the highway, but it's alerted me to a number of speed traps locally that I would never had been aware of otherwise. I don't drive crazy fast but I do like to drive a speed that I feel comfortable handling. And usually, that's a *bit* faster than the posted speed limit.

Outstanding- now you need laser protection, such as Laser Interceptor. That will need firewall access & 12v as well. Got it and a V1 in my 335. Does a great job.

Could I ask which model invisicord you used?

So, true story. This morning, I was just driving through a nearby through street, speed limit inexplicably 25 MPH, and my 9500 goes off with a KA band warning. Occassionally, they'll put up one of those stationary detectors showing your speed, but those are always K band. So, I slowed to 25 MPH. Yup, right there was a cop. A car 2 behind me got pulled. It would have been me for sure.

Re: 2014 Hardwire Radar Detector

Great write up, thanks! I think I'm going to go with the Mirrortap since it has the integrated V1 connection. I'm wondering why you recommend a 20 inch version of the chord if the unit is being mounted so close to the mirror? Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm thinking 12-15 inches would be plenty. You said it's to tuck the slack up in the headliner. How much excess slack is there with the 20 inch version?

Thanks for that. I did the same thing on my 2011 but there was a small access door on the back of the mirror to expose the wiring harness. Is this no longer there on the 2014?

Great write up, but got 2 question2:

Your first part says the entire mirror assembly is removed by pulling back, yet it appears in re-installation that one must twist it to engage the bolt already attached to the w)indshield.

Does one need to twist the assembly when removing the mirror as well or is it just pulled up or back? (If so, straight back or up?)

Also, was there room to hide the V1 power adapter inside the mirror housing?

Thanks again and well done.

I had the 12" cable but it wasn't long enough to tuck it under the headliner, it ran straight from the V1 across to the mirror. Maybe I wasn't creative enough with running it. I made a longer cable and that worked much better.
