Not only high end cars/ even Kia has leds in almost every latest model vehicles. I just cant figure out, why and how jeep didnt come with LED bulbs for stop/signal. The regular bulbs are hardly be seen in direct sunlight. Right now i am using Triton V3's for brake/signal and they are much much better than regular bulbs, much brighter than stock.

The idea i came up with should not be too hard, just tap those outer part led wires into brake/turn/ground wires. I think those halo led have only 2 wires ground and running light, i'l have to splice + wire into 2 , one would tap into brake and other to turn signal. OR you can decide if you want outer led to work with only brake or turn or both. the only thing is that outer leds will stay off while driving at night. until you brake or signal.
I do like your idea, I'm just not sure I like the thought of it being off while driving, would look strange with only one side lit. But would be curious to see it tested and have some pics. I'm definitely going to keep this idea open, I will keep brainstorming ideas and maybe hopefully someone out there will be interested in something similar and come back with a solution later.

Gotta love the Jeep boards, a lot of smart people out there discovering new things for the rest of us!

Alright... lets keep this idea so far...

I noticed not so many ppl here are interested in tail light... mostly are into headlight and fog lights.
I got the LUX II package so i got those kool led DRL and xenons. Plus the 20 inch wheels... what about you?

Yup, I have an Overland which comes standard with the LED/HID's and 20's. Oddly enough, that's actually what sold me on the new Grand Cherokee's were the updated looks. Love the look of the front lights, now just need to spice up the rear lights

Re: 2014 LED Tail Light as Brake/Turn signal??

If I had a 14 I would just add a the V3 triton and call it a day. The halo don't fully light up in the day and show hot spots in the corners.

They look awesome at night though.

My wish would be to add a brake light to the portion on the hatch so when you hit the brake the whole inner section of the halo filled with brake light.

I think that would increase visibility instead of using the halos as brake lights.

Re: 2014 LED Tail Light as Brake/Turn signal??

Can it be done? That's something I'd like to try - not sure if 1 led would do the trick to light out the entire hollow portion, but it might be worth trying. Is it possible to run wires from the hollow portion of the tail light and tap into the break light?

Re: 2014 LED Tail Light as Brake/Turn signal??

To see if adding a brake light to the liftgate portion is possible here is how I would investigate.

Take a flashlight and hold it up against the lense to see what you can see inside.

If I saw something that looked like an indentation for a bulb reflector then the next step would be to remove the housing from the liftgate to see if there is a molded blank on the back. (this would be confirmation that there was an option to accept a bulb)

If there was I would buy a pair of 7440 bulb sockets or a pair of 921 bulb sockets and take my time and cut out holes in the housings to accept the socket I would use.

Then I would take the ground wire of the sockets ground them to the lift gate then make me harness the led up the to the CHMSL (Third Brake light) and tap the positive wire for a positive signal.

Then I would test the circuit with a regular bulb then take my time and hunt down a nice now profile 7440 or 921 LED or CREE bulb that matched the brightness of whatever I used for the Stop/Tail on the body.

That would make the rear of a '14 for me.

Re: 2014 LED Tail Light as Brake/Turn signal??

I dismantled one of the tail lights so you could see if your idea would work. What do you think?

I remember that there was a bulb shaped object I just did not check if it would come out. I will ask the shop to save it for me if they have not already thrown it out.

I wish you has posted a better photo.....

With that said I don't see any green circuit board behind the chrome reflector so I would say it is a go.

Maybe a nice hole saw could make a hole for something like these.

I just seems now that you would have to make two hole now instead of one.

The first would be a larger hole to gain access to the back of the reflector.

The second would be through the reflector to put the bulb in.

EDIT

I would need confirmation but it looks like you might have the actually use 4 separate 168 bulbs and place them under the difused squares to fill out space.

You could start with the two in the middle then branch out to the other two if needed.

Hayseed would you mind measuring the space between the clear diffuser and the chrome reflector?
