2014 rear lights chrome plastidip?

To the ones who plasti-dipped the rear chrome accents around the tail-lights.

Did you remove the lights or simply covered the area and used tape?

I'm sure you can get a better and more even coat on them if you take them off, but each time I've done it, I've just masked off around it.

Really easy to do, but I never got a clean line with the dip around the reverse lights after peeling it all. So that's why I suggest taking them off, dipping, then reattach them.

I'll remove them, and then black out the chrome, still at awe how Jeep could use that much chrome on the Limited, the Laredo with less chrome and body painted mirrors / door handles I like a lot more. The Jeep is not a mini van.

I like this looks with darker tail lights.

I plastidipped the chrome trim on the taillights black on my white '14 overland. Just took a lot of painters tape lol. Looks just like the srt8.

I used tape and the blunt side of an xacto knife to push it down in the gap between the light and the chrome. After several coats, I opened the back hatch to get easy access to the dip that was sprayed on the lights. Super easy to peel off if the lights are clean and smooth.

In case it wasn't clear, I painted the entire reverse light, chrome surrounding it and then removed the dip over the reverse light.

Re: 2014 rear lights chrome plastidip?

I think I'll not remove the lights :-)
When looking at the chrome it looks like it's clipped on to the rest of the light but I may be wrong, probably the chrome can't be simply un-clipped what would make the painting probably very easy as well...

It's not difficult, just take your time applying the tape and it should go smoothly. I did a full chrome delete in two days and I had never used plasti dip before. The hardest part was definitely the window trim; everything else you can re-do in less than 15 minutes of prep.

I'm going to wrap my limited to look like this after the summer. There is an interesting 5 series near here with the matte Lamborghini AB orange. Looks unique.

That orange jeep in the Jeep show photo was the reason I got my second wk2. My son loves it.

I would have bought a Laredo and done this, but the difference in features (limited w/luxury) is too dominant.

Re: 2014 rear lights chrome plastidip?

I hear you, I like the Limited with luxury package as well, thinking of it, that 6cyl engine is not good for such a heavy vehicle, it's ok but fun is something completely different...needs a Heminfor sure...

I removed the taillights both outside and the hatch (4 nuts) ones. Easy to remove.
4 coats and 2 glossifier coats, took at least 4h's, all these plasti dip coats take forever. I've also plasti dipped the chrome bumper strip while covering up the vehicle.
