2014 JGC: Removing Side View Mirror Covers

I was told at the dealership that the chrome side mirror covers on my 14 Overland were not removable, if they were removed it would break tabs on the inside of the cover. Which I'm fine with if im replacing them anyway. Then I was told that I couldn't buy just a body colored cover, I had to buy the whole $700 mirror unit. Can anyone confirm this? If this is the case then I'll probably just vinyl wrap the mirror black instead of change it to billet silver like I want to.

Can't really confirm the pricing of a whole unit, but if you look around, I remember threads of members here removing the covers, I think you need to pull the complete mirror apart tho, others may chime in here and confirm... There is always the; have them repainted option, the Plasti-dip them option or find someone that wants chrome in exchange for silver or black...or the wrap them up... I will personally plasti-dip mine and then offer them out in exchange, wait to see....the day someone wants to make the change, well I’ll just peel them off…

The caps are most definitely removable. I will post a link to the instructions when I get home. As far as having to buy the whole mirror, that is true, but you can buy the Laredo mirrors at about 150 each. All of the trim models use the same mirror caps.

Mirrors covers are not hard to take off. Did 3 jeeps already a few times but have to use a flashlight , flathead screwdriver and hold the taps so they don't break just have to take ur time

Wow that looks like a pretty easy removal, thanks for the link Pipes! Now I just have to figure out how to get some billet silver covers without having to buy the whole damn mirror. From what I'm told, paint doesn't stick very well to the chrome plated plastic.

I purchased a set of the chrome covers off ebay and had my buddy that owns a body shop paint the covers. If prepped correctly, the paint will stick.
