Honestly I would not recommend upgrading to 55W ballast, there is a reason why factory HIDs are 35w. Sure they produce slightly more light (approximately 15%-20%) but they also produce more heat. You would have to get a 55w bulb as well otherwise your going to over draw the bulb causing it to burn out quickly.

Fair enough on the ballasts, just trying to up the output a bit.

Anyone know the lumen output of the factory fogs? What lumens are people putting in? I'm seeing a ton of LED's out there in the 300-500LM range, lots in the 800-900LM range, and even some in the 1200-1500LM range (WOW). Curious what folks are putting in, and how they compare to the factory candle...er, fog lights. I'm leaning towards LED fogs as opposed to HID, just for switching on/off...

I am putting in 6000k headlights. I wouldn't go over that unless you want less output. I put in hoen halogen bulbs in for fogs instead of LEDs cause I felt the LEDs I tried didn't give enough light.

Re: 2014 replacing bulbs with LED's interior , replace headlamp/fog

Kelvin (6000K) is the color temperature. Higher numbers are more blue; lower numbers more amber; true white is in the neighborhood of 4300-4500K.

LUMENS are the light output levels - brightness. Regardless of color, Lumens are what's important to me here.

I used to teach college-level color theory and stage lighting / design. Anything "blue", the human eye doesn't pick up well. I don't see how folks can drive around with blue headlights and not run into stuff, but oh well...for the fogs I'm either going to match the OEM HID headlights, or I'll go with a yellow/amber for a "true" fog light, to cut the haze (since they seem to be basically worthless for putting light on the road at this point - the DRL's put out as much light as they do!).

Well for the fogs I used the hoen bulbs which match the factory headlights and I couldn't be happier with them. http://www.hoen-usa.com/fog.htm I have had 6000k hids in headlight and fogs in my other car and I was fine with the output. I have the 6000k d3s bulbs which I haven't put in yet and don't know if I will cause I am happy with the stock output now that my fogs match better then stock bulbs. The hoen bulbs you can get yellow ones too.

I checked the Hoen page...but are they LED? Incandescent? HID? Couldn't find on the page where they say (not that it matters, H11's are on backorder until 2/15/14...).

Thanks for the link, I'll keep an eye on it

They are incandescent halogen bulbs. If I remember I will take some pics of mine at night. The yellow bulbs are on backorder not the ones that match hids from what I saw.

LED fog light bulbs will provide you with the colour you are after, but they are purely a cosmetic upgrade. The light output produced by these bulbs is not going to be very functional.

this is the truth, but they look so much better so is was worth it for me as the headlights are plenty bright.

I think I'm go I'm going to go 3000k for the yellow look and functionality. I'll only turn them on in bad weather anyway

Good move! I have a 3000k HID Kit installed in my fogs and absolutely love the function, and look.
