Re: 2014 replacing bulbs with LED's interior , replace headlamp/fog

Yeah I ended up just leaving the original led in place and cutting the wires ( left some slack just in case I ever wanted to connect them again)

Very easy mod, I added the new led wires to the existing wiring ( i soldered my connections and used heat shrink which I had around. Made for a clean install.

This is the seller and listing.
I emailed him and asked if he would include the plastic holders with LEDs which he did.

So to those of you who have put HID/LED bulbs in the 2014+ projector style foglights, has the light output kept the sharp cutoff like stock? I don't want to change the bulb style only to have it throw light everywhere and blind people. Post pics if you have any please.

I have no idea how you guys are installing bulbs or HID kits I can't even replace the stock bulbs for Christ sake on this piece of shit. I can't believe I'm literally gonna have to take the bumper off to change a bulb.

Hi guys!
I'm a stranger writing You from the sandbox...Dubai,UAE.
I'm following You on all Your mods and I want to thank You for such a help!
I'm sorry for bothering You but I got my WK2 stranded for the last 3 days trying to solder led on the map lights after seeing Your various post post.
I just wanna make sure I understand what You did:
did You cut the ribbons from the main board to the 3 small boards and connected them directly to led with a wire connector, right?
How did You fixed them in place then?
Pictures appreciated!
Many many thanks!

I wish I took pictures of that so it would help with my reply. I used that awful ribbon cable. I only cut it at the ends which where secured to the stock yellowish led. I actually soldiered additional wires to existing ribbon so it gave me more wire to work with. I did it a strange way since I deconstructed a led bulb and left the existing board on the led. This allowed me to glue the led in place as it added more surface area.

I won't lie first time trying this i thought I ruined it then tried it again with some more patience and its works great and no issues thus far.

Hard to see in the picture but if you look to the left you can see the led I took from another bulb and how I left the backing piece to allow me to glue it in place.

If you looks to my post you will see I used a different style led that was attached to a ribbon cable already and all I did was carefully stripped the ribbon to expose the wire then soldered together. I unfortunately didn't take no pics but the one I used also had a double sided sticky tape on it and all I did was taken wire off little circuit board turned it over then stuck my new one on. The hardest part was the stripping and soldering the ribbon cable. Best of luck in your venture in installing these LEDs.

Re: 2014 replacing bulbs with LED's interior , replace headlamp/fog

So, I read the whole thread (very helpful), but have a question that hasn't been addressed. I did the whole interior swap, and of course, the egg yolk map lights are ruining the effect. Is it possible to just disconnect the map lights being that I won't be soldering in new LEDs? If so, having never done anything with ribbons, or having it pulled out yet, do I just pull out the ribbon? Do I need to wrap the end in electrical tape?

Thanks for the feedback!

So glad to see someone considerate. Thank you! Not judging people but some people just really don't care about how it affects others.

By the way how hard did you pull on the upper center console to get it to release???

on a side note...

I am glad I replaced the liftgate lights to LEDs, check the brown (burn) mark around the edges

Yes my bulb holder is the same, maybe a fire hazard recall

I am wondering the same thing. Can the ribbon just be cut or a way to turn off the map lights via a fuse? I can't stand those two halogens vs the leds.

Thinking out loud, but what about covering the led with something? This would effectively do the same thing and be reversible. Any thoughts about applying electrical tape over the led?
