Yeah I thought about that as well. Maybe a piece of electrical tape. Just leave the lens covers off for a few days and check it every so often.

I pulled off the cover and covered the light with electrical tape. No light goes thru and I left the light on for quite some time to check the temperature. It appears to be fine, as LEDs do not produce much heat, and technically, it isn't even directly on the LED -- > it is over a lens 1 cm away from the LED.

I'll report back after a few weeks.

Thanks for taking the initiative with this. I may have to attempt it now. Got any pics?

I didn't take any, but I would recommend covering the entire half of the light assembly (the area where the map light is) so that it looks uniform thru the lens. I'm getting my new wheels put on next weekend and then I'll make a thread and post some pics of the new rig.

Re: 2014 replacing bulbs with LED's interior , replace headlamp/fog

Hi, I'm new to the jeep thing and I just got a 2015 jeep with projector lamps. I really want to replace the weak, dull, yellow halogens that were virtually useless when I drove the truck home at night, in the rain. I basically have three questions...

1. Can I use these LEDs for my headlights? I saw earlier in the thread (2013) that LEDs weren't bright enough to replace headlights is that still the case?

2. Would it be too much to use those LEDs in my fog lights or would that be overkill?

3. I also want to replace my turn signals at the same time. Are there any recommendations?

Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand your statement of you have projector lenses, but have week halogens. If you have projector lenses then you have HID and not halogen headlights. Yes the fogs are week and many people have replaced them for LED, the turn signals in front are already LED. Are you talking about the rear?

From what I have seen is that you do not want to use LEDs for your headlights as they do not have as much light output. The throw or distance of the light is not that great. Upgrade with HIDs or an upgraded halogen bulb. Most use LEDs in their fogs mainly for color match as it does have some useable light output but not much.

And maybe someone can answer you better about leds in the turn signals. I'm assuming your talking about the headlight Amber turn signal. I've put an LED (previous car) behind an amber lens like and all it did while making it brighter was turn it more of a whitish yellow color. I didn't like the look. But I don't know about the Jeeps turn signal with LEDs I would have to see pics.

Thanks for the replies. The leds are 80w, but it seems the consensus is to use hid in the headlights. Is there a general agreement on which hid works best? The reason I selected leds initially is because I was hoping to turn my drls back on. They're off right now because the dim, yellow light they put out is, frankly, embarrassing. You shouldn't use the drls with the hides because it shortens their life, as I understand it.

You are right, the headlight turn signal is the one I was referring to.

Again, I'm slightly concerned that using these 80w leds in the fogs might be too bright and the wattage too great for the circuitry. I am by no means an electrical wizard, so my concerns may be 100% unfounded.

Just have a question, I have a HID kit from my out car about 3 month wear on them. It's a H11B bulb, is there a difference between the H11 in my WK2 and H11B?

It would be different if its a halogen bulb as the way they connect to the vehicle is different. Since this is regarding a HID bulb than they would be the same.
