Re: 2014 Summit Mud Guards

I received mine also at 11am via FedEx. I know have to wait until I get the Jeep back from the boss lady, she is out of town until 12/20/14. I am still waiting to hear back from the vinyl guy who said he can do it. I may go get a quote on painting them until I hear back from the vinyl guy.

Re: 2014 Summit Mud Guards

I pulled them out of the box and they are ok, not great, just ok. They have a very heavy textured finish which is a bit inconsistent with the high gloss of the flares and rocker panels. I held up the rears and they aren't a flush as I would like but I'm going to test fit them tomorrow. When I first bought my GC I had erroneously ordered the OEM mud guards that don't fit the summit. The OEM finish is nice and smooth which to me looks way better. Wasn't planning to paint these. We'll see......

Re: 2014 Summit Mud Guards

Well, just for fun I decided to stop by the body shop who has painted other items for me to ask for a quote on painting the flaps the grey metallic color of the lower trip. Keep in mind I really have been impressed on the beautiful flawless work and honesty that this locally owned shop has provided for me in the past. I was somewhat shocked when they said it would be $150.00 to paint all four flaps. The owner of the body shop happened to be the one I spoke with and as much as he said it would look nice he told me that he could not guarantee that the paint would not crack badly if the flap gets bent or if someone tries to flex it to get slush or ice knocked off of it. I have not received an estimate yet from the vinyl shop but they want me to bring the flaps into their shop on 12/17/14 so they can take a close look at them.

On a side note I stopped by my local dealership parts counter to see if they could confirm the paint code for the lower trim before I stopped at the body shop and I was promptly told by the parts manager that they have no way of finding that information because it was trim and not the main body color. A younger gentleman in the parts department chimed in and said he would do a little research and find it but then the manger became a bit over aggressive with the young man and told him not to waste his time because there was no way of getting the paint code. I thanked them for being incredibly helpful and walked out.

Re: 2014 Summit Mud Guards

I installed the rears today and needless to say the clips for the B hole are to small and not even close to lining up. Not sure if I drill a hole or just plug it. With regards to laser fit.... questionable, not exactly snug but they will do for the winter. As for the front, not sure what Husky is thinking, there is no way to insert the u-clips with the way the fender flares are installed, tells you to drill 1/8 holes for A, B and C and insert u-clips, anyone figures that one out and I'll buy you a beer. I'm wondering if the 1/8 hole is all you need to adhere the flaps to the body. I'm holding off until I get a chance to talk with them.

Re: 2014 Summit Mud Guards

I looked at the instructions when I received them on Saturday and noticed that the front set only included 2 "u" clips as indicated at the top of the instructions. There is no indication to use "u" clips for holes A and B. Only in step 4 does it say to use the "u" clip for hole C. Based on what you are seeing do you think "u" clips would fit for holes A and B at all ? Do you think that just the screw will hold them or not? On the rears was the clip for the B hole too short to reach? I do not have my Jeep right now so I hope you don't mind me asking those questions.

3. Install a #10 SEM screw at locations A and B. Check for parallel before tightening.

4. Install a #10 SEM screw through the mudguard and liner at
location C into a U clip on the back side of the liner. Do not clip
the U clip over the liner. (The U clip acts as a nut)

Yeah. One of the problems is they left the instructions out of the front ones. I just downloaded and it shows only 1 clip per side. Should be interesting to get the clip in the spot they tell you. I'll be tackling the fronts tonight

Re: 2014 Summit Mud Guards

Fronts installed , much easier and good fit. I went with a 1/16 " versus the 1/8 for a tighter grip. No need to pull wheels cut them and you'll be fine with a regular drill.

I will not be able to install mine until next week at the earliest. I did hear back from the vinyl shop and they quoted me $92.00 to wrap the matching vinyl on the flaps. I am going to take them to the guy on Wednesday 12/17/14 so he can take a closer look at the flap and see how the best way to do the vinyl will be. As soon as I find out more I will let you guys know and I will post pictures before and after I get them installed.

I see a few of you guys are from Chicago or surrounding areas. I was born and raised in Evergreen Park on the south side. I came to college in Iowa City, loved it here so I stayed. My older brother retired from 34 years with Chicago Fire Department about 4 years ago.
