2014 Summit - New Owner

This is my first Jeep ever, but not new to the performance world. Love this vehicle so far. It has the Hemi, and lucked out that i'm the second owner with 27k miles when I got her last week-my old 2004 Explorer exploded. Stumbled across this and scooped her up.

Brilliant Black Crystal. The mod bug is already buzzing in my head, and I have been lurking around this site trying to get information. Some things I'd like to start with:

- too much chrome. I'd like to black everything out to match the paint. Are there parts i can buy that are Mopar replacements for what is chrome and do not need to be painted? For example, i know the grille can be done, but things like the lower front bumper portion, side skirt chrome, door handles, fog light surround, etc - are there replacement parts that can just be swapped and not have to be painted?

- Headlights. I'd like to have the SRT blacked out look to match the rest of the vehicle once its blacked out. I know these are expensive-cheaper to get a custom headlight shop to paint the insides?

- Ride height. I have the Summit so that means this thing automatically raises the height once the vehicle starts. I really wish they made this option customizeable and less automatic, so the driver controls how high or low he wants the vehicle to sit at all times - like an aftermarket system. My question is, has anyone ever tried to manipulate the ECM to change these parameters? I feel like that should be able to be done through some updating of the ECM.

Thanks for the replies, and sorry if i asked something that has already been answered-been searching and reading and already have several tabs open to other questions i had hahahaha

Congrats on the Summit it looks awesome! So as you are finding out there are plenty of mods you can do.

The too much chrome thing is very common on the Summit. There are plenty of ways to change this, but it is a lot of work as lets face it, chrome is everywhere on it! The problem with the Summit is that IMO you need to either go all out, or just leave it as is.
There are a lot of OEM replacement parts that can be swapped such as gloss black emblems, grill rings, tail light bezels etc etc. The only replacement parts you could get for all the other chrome parts would be the black chrome stuff from the High Altitude model. Otherwise the parts will need to be removed and painted or wrapped. Mirror caps and door handles can be bought painted, but the mirrors you'll have to buy the complete assembly and take just the mirror caps to swap. The roof rails can be swapped to the SRT/High Altitude low profile ones for reasonable price. That gets rid of the roof chrome. The lower side panels can also be swapped for the SRT/High Altitude skirts which would eliminate that chrome strip there. They are also a bit more aggressively shaped.

The SRT/High Altitude headlights are available used, but as you stated they aren't cheap for a mint set. Maybe a shop can paint the bezel, but I don't think the lights come apart. The lenses would literally need to be cut off. Don't forget that even the tail lights are different. You could swap just the bezels, but you would still have the bright red lenses where as the SRT/High Altitude have more of a smoked look. Those are available on ebay for 400ish.

No one has changed the air suspension electronics. There is an aftermarket kit originally made for Rovers, I think they make a kit for the Jeep but its $$$ and I'm unsure of what it does or how it works. If you want to raise or lower the height in all settings you can go the custom lowering link method. Cheap and super easy to do. For example if you want the vehicle to be lower about an inch in all settings these will work great. Do a search for the links I have a DIY thread with pics.

Thanks for the info!! That's a HUGE help to answer my questions. Aside from the chome, I fell in love with this thing. First Jeep I ever owned. I really just stumbled into this, as my Explorer quit on me and I needed a truck fast. This came along, although my sights are set on the SRT or Trackhawk in the future.

I'm glad I have some great options to black this thing out. SRT wheels or something comparable will be in order as well. And thank you for the info on the suspension - i'll take a look at that DIY and search more.
