Hello,

I have a 2015 Grand Cherokee Altitude and recently got 2 new HID kits for my headlights and for my fog lights. They are both H11 6,000K HID kits from Kensun. I have read numerous posts and am wondering if I need to buy anything else before I have a local garage install them in two weeks. The kits came with the bulbs and 35W ballasts.

I am wondering if I will need to purchase a relay harness for each set as well as a CANBUS fix as I have read on other forums.

The CANBUS fix I was looking at is:
CANBUS Fix

The HID kits I have for my low lights and fog lights are:

Thank you!!

What made you choose 6000k? That will not give very good illumination.
If you want good output 4300k is recommended.

Simply put, I have friends with the different kits in their trucks - I thought the 6,000k looked nicer than the 4,300k even though I realized the illumination wouldn't be as strong as the 4,300k.

Got it.
HID can be finicky. Getting a set-up that works with your car sometimes takes trial and error. That of course can get expensive. I spent way too much money on HID for an older BMW I had before I got it to work well.
It's usually best to buy and install at the same vendor so they have to get it right.
Good luck.

This may not be what you want to hear, but I would return the kensun kit and order a kit from diode dynamics with the 2015 mopar specific anti flicker kit. I can almost guarantee that kensun kit won't work even with a canbus relay. I tried the xenondepot kit on my 15 and it didn't work properly. I then installed the kit on another car and it works great. After reading some reviews, I got the diode dynamics kit and it has been perfect (had it about 4 months). It is pricey at $180 but uses hyluxtek ballasts that warmup really quickly and is super easy to install.

If you want to go cheaper, try the 2015 mopar specific ddm tuning plus kit for $80.

I just bought the ddm plus kit for headlights and fogs. I'll let you know how it works out

Did anyone find anything that works? My 2015 Altitude is extremely picky. I tried various kits including Xenon Depot and they don't work. The truck with shut them off completely after a few minutes. I have the Eagle Eyes headlights and I am craving for a whiter low beam.

Go with the ddm plus canbus units I got I already talked to people with 2015+ rams and it's working without a relay just plug and play for them. I'll be installing mine as soon as it warms up its so damn cold here this week.

Oh you found the link already! Yea I know the product isn't as good quality at the diode dynamics I was originally going with that kit as well until you posted the ddm kit was available.

I already know the ddm kit is going to work and it has a lifetime warranty but I've heard mixed reviews of ddms lifetime warranty. So don't base it just off that.

Personally, I tend to not put too much stock in any places warranty. If they work well out of the box and I have to order another set in a year I wouldn't complain. I like that the ddm kit doesn't use a separate stand alone error cancelling component as it makes the install a bit easier due to space constraints.

I believe i have the XD kit with relay and it is not working well at all...just got cold here in north nersey and now they dont turn on right away. Never had a cold weathrr hid problem. Thinking of installing these ddm kit

Skunkd, whats up bro? Ddi you install them yet?? I hate relays and harnesses, i feel like a good kit should not need a relay harness kit. I want to rip out the rats nest of wires and get a good kit to pnp

In my opinion I still think it's a little sketch running these off the stock harness. Besides the fact that the 2015's are notorious for being very sensitive. The relay harness only requires two wires, + and - both can be found at the jumper terminals under the hood. After that it's up to the installer to avoid an unsightly installation (aka...rats nets). I've been installing HID kits since 2000 and never once ran one without a relay. On the WK2 platform I'd be able to hide about 95% of the wires under the hood from being seen (while using a relay). This would require bumper removal and custom fitting the relay harness to the vehicle.

A sloppy install ("rats nest") comes down to the installer and is not the fault of the harness.

I just spoke with the guy at DDM that tested the kit on the 2015 models. He ensured me it would work or he'll give me a full refund. He also said he has sold a bunch to the Dodge and Cherokee guys. I ordered one and will report back . I'm here in NJ too, hopefully it will be at least in the 30's when I get mine.

What's the best tool to drill the dust caps to fit the HIDs? This is the first car I've had to worry about aftermarket HID's with dust caps on the headlamps?

Also what size hole is correct to keep them sealed properly?

I haven't yet gotta run to harbor freight for the step bit to drill the dust caps. Dabitz looks good! There is some warm weather this week so I'll try my best to get to them if I'm not too busy with work.

I was not able to re use the dust caps on the Eagle Eyes headlamps, no biggie, a bigger whole on the cap would have rendered them useless anyway. I did everything from the top, no need to remove the bumper.

I don't have a link for the Morimoto stuff because I ordered at cost through a friend who is a distributor, but here is what I'm running... sourced from the The Retrofit Source:

H11: Morimoto Elite HID System 1
HID Ballasts
2 x Morimoto XB35 (35W)
Ballast Igniters
2 x Morimoto XB Igniter (AMP)
Compatible HID Bulbs
2 x H11: XB35 5500K
Harness

This is the Diode Dynamics antiflicker (Canbus) that works with 2015 and up, US manufactured:
CANBUS Anti-Flicker Module (pair) - HID Accessories - HID Lighting - All Products You should be able to use this with any HID kit.

I see the last item on your list is "harness." Is this just a generic relay harness, or something mopar specific? Good to know the diode dynamics anti flicker module works with any ballast. I am using the hyluxtek canbus ballast they include in the kit and am very impressed with the fast warmup time.

Or that of you want the DDM kit. I hope this weather dries up its been a cold snowy wet mess here the last week and a half I haven't been able to install it.

Either kit should work fine they are specific for our canbus system.

One more question for you HID experts... Are their different bulbs for AC ballasts vs DC ballasts? Or are they the same bulbs regardless with just the ballasts being different? The connectors seem to be the same for both types of ballasts, just curious this doesn't relate to either kit above just a random question since I have a lot of extra bulbs laying around the garage that came from Each type of kit but I can't tell the difference (if there is any?). Would they be interchangeable?

thanks for
the info. Kind of curious to see how you make out with your kit from ddm. I'm waiting for Xenondepo to refund my money from my order and that will be ordering the kit from ddm or the one Matts15 was telling me about. Appreciate all the info guys!

The Morimoto's I have on the headlights are way brighter than the DDMs I have on the fogs. I still have the bulbs from the Xenon Depot kit, I'm going to see if I can use them on the fogs with the DDM kit. No auto on issues at all. I don't know if the reason they look dimmer is because they are on the fogs, but they do seem a lot dimmer. It might not be fair to compare them to Morimoto, but just stating the facts. It might also be that the Morimotos warm up right away. Another fact, the DDM ballasts are really heavy compared to any others I have ever seen. That's not necessarily a good thing.

I am still a bit confused as to what components you used with the morimoto kit. Did you use a dedicated relay harness hooked to positive terminal near the fusebox? I thought you did not but on the post a few pages back you mention a "harness" being used. As to your comment on the ddm relay being heavy, what component are you referring to? You should have the ballast, and on the wires coming out of the ballast one will have the "canbus" module and the other will have the igniter. Thanks.
