2015 HID Bulb Install?

Dealer is saying per their manufacturer procedure the bumper fascia has to be removed to replace the HID bulbs. 2 hours labor.

Is this true? I understand the driver side you have to remove the air box to get access.

I thought dealer techs would be familiar and trained on getting to the bulbs through the engine compartment.

Anyone have suggestions or detailed pis/instructions. I really don't want to pay $135 per hour labor plus $40 for the side rivets which I think costs a few bucks at the local auto parts store.

Re: 2015 HID Bulb Install?

Humm that's strange, I thought those access panels in the front wheel wells were to access the headlight bulbs. It's a tight fit but one time when I was messing with my AFS system I had to get in there and was able to grab the back of the HID bulb from the wheel well access panel. Might want to double check that the dealership isn't trying to pull a fast one on you.

2015 HID Bulb Install?

The access holes in the wheel wells provide no real "access" for changing the actual bulbs. I recently did both of my headlights in about 10minutes. All you need is a flat blade screw driver or 5/16" socket for the intake tube hose clamp.

Use this video as a guide and save yourself the money.

I pulled the facia. New took me a couple hours, if I had to do it again. 1 hour tops including cleanup. You can access under the hood but if you put in bulb a little off, you could bend the tabs and be sol

Re: 2015 HID Bulb Install?

Oh and if you have an SRT or Summit, bumper removal is wayyyy more of a pain in the ass because of the way they attach and integrate with the molded fender flares.

Re: 2015 HID Bulb Install?

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I decided to replace the bulbs myself referencing the video which was extremely helpful. Only tools needed is a flathead screwdriver for removing the air box and a pair of nitrile gloves.

First unplug both ECM connectors as in video. For each connector, push small tab on front and lift lever fully. Wiggle connector back to unplug.

Here is the passenger side, remove the plastic cap. Twist counterclockwise to remove.

View of OEM Osram bulb. There is an outer ring with tabs on either side at the 10oclock and 4oclock position when locked. To unlock turn outer ring counterclockwise to 7oclock and 2oclock position. Then you can wiggled the bulb back from the spring tension clips. Below photo shows the unlock position.

Unplug connector and reconnect to new HID bulb. I upgraded to the Philips Xtremevision, they are 4800k color. It will take a little patience to seat the new bulb inside the spring mechanism, this was probably the most difficult step. Make sure bulb is fully seated then lock the outer ring by turning clockwise back to original position.

For the driver side, remove the air box and intake per the video. The top of the intake and the back of the airbox are attached to plastic grommets, you need to disconnect the points. Here is the view of the drivers side. Repeat the procedure, button everything up and go have a beer.

I will give the new bulbs some time (20 hours) to break-in. I was expecting a noticeable whiter color from the OEM 4300k bulbs but it was hard to tell after install. I will give it some time. Anyone else with the Philips XV notice the same?

I have the same bulbs, I don't think the colour is that much different tbh, but the light output is much better. Somewhere buried in my pictures I have one taken after only one bulb was done, and colour wise in the garage you could hardly tell.

Re: 2015 HID Bulb Install?

I've put about 8+ hours on the bulb and it is noticeably getting whiter and brighter now. I think they are pretty amazing bulbs compared to the OEM 4300k bulbs. I wasn't that impressed after installing the bulbs, but now I'm a happy camper, well worth the cost. It will only continue to get better as the bulbs break-in more and more.
